About this deal

A complete scene-by-scenedescription of all the costumes needed for each of the characters in the show. As the dress shirt has no buttons then I am adding some half pearls that I'm sure will suit Mr Hyde. Frankenstein: how Mary Shelley's sci-fi classic offers lessons for us today about the dangers of playing God Hyde’s vicious, almost feral side is most pronounced in the scene where he beats an old man who stops him in the street and politely asks for directions:

The collar on Dr Jekyllk's shirt will be in an upright position and held in place under the cravat. For Jekyll and Hyde, I felt that a deep, dark rich palette of colour built up with varying texture would best suit the mood of the show. Therefore I chose mostly dark colours which absorb the light, and at some points during the play use light-catching fabrics to draw focus on Eleanor’s poignant scenes. We are rarely aligned with Hyde’s gaze. He remains an inaccessible, somewhat distant figure – more of a boorish caricature than a complex human. Characters who encounter Hyde form only a distorted, vague sense of him – thus hinting that he is a spectral, intangible figure. One recalls, “He must be deformed somewhere; he gives a strong feeling of deformity, although I couldn’t specify the point”. An evocative tale of two men – one, a doctor, passionate and romantic; the other, a terrifying madman – and two women – one, beautiful and trusting; the other, beautiful and trusting only herself– both women in love with the same man and both unaware of his dark secret. A devoted man of science, Dr. Henry Jekyll is driven to find a chemical breakthrough that can solve some of mankind's most challenging medical dilemmas. Rebuffed by the powers that be, he decides to make himself the subject of his own experimental treatments, accidentally unleashing his inner demons along with the man that the world would come to know as Mr. Hyde.By the end of the evening I could not write. It was so painful and unsettling to watch Jekyll's final, tortuous demise. I have never felt that way before at the end of a Rose Bowl Adjudication. As a key piece of costume in that it holds the collar and the illusion of the two characters together this needs to be made first.

ESTMonday – Friday. Mr. Hyde broke out of all bounds and clubbed him to the earth. And, next moment, with ape-like fury, he was trampling his victim under foot, and hailing down a storm of blows, under which the bones were audibly shattered and the body jumped upon the roadway. Their clothes have to be completely believable. So believable in fact, that you had better not be thinking of them while you are watching the performance, just simply engrossed in the story. To this end, I make sure I ask myself key questions about the characters such as; how wealthy are they? What is their standing in society? How much does this person care about their appearance? What is their profession or occupation? What are their personal tastes like? The clothes have to suit each criteria. Then, I must meet additional criteria such as ‘Can this actor move freely in their costume?’, ‘Is it fit for purpose’? For each question I can take my cues from the script. Following our sell-out 2017/18 tour, we're delighted to announce the revival of our highly acclaimed production, The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde, coming to theatres across the UK until May 2022.MR HYDE'S CRAVAT: Fold over the short and non-pointed end of the remaining single piece of fabric to make a seam which will have the strength to support the press studs. Adaptations range from horror-comedies to psychological dramas. In the 1931 film, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, for which Fredric March won the Academy Award for Best Actor, the animal dimensions of Hyde are borne out visually. March dons a set of false teeth resembling canine fangs and a wig of shaggy hair that sits so low on his forehead, it almost meets his eyebrows.
