The installation and set up only takes a few minutes. The soundbar and subwoofer are automatically paired when the power is turned on. The first time you use the soundbar, you must manually pair it with the surround speakers, after which the pairing is done automatically the next time you use the soundbar. Automatic calibration takes just a few minutes from a smartphone using the JBL One app. The first calibration step involves placing the two surround speakers in the listeners’ positions for a first set of measurements. The second step is to place the speakers in their final location for a second set of measurements. Then, the speakers must be precisely directed towards the listeners. (Image credit: Future) JBL Bar 1300X soundbar review: Design The JBL Bar 1300X is a Dolby Atmos soundbar with up-firing channels designed to ricochet sound effects off the ceiling to create the illusion of height with height content. There are six drivers— four on the bar and two on the satellites. JBL reports only four channels, though. The pair of drivers in the bar essentially function as one channel sending the same sound. These speakers you can attach or detach from the main unit depending their use. This is important as you do not need a fixed placement and you can change their position at will.

Inside the Bar 1300 are six upward-firing drivers, JBL's MultiBeam tech, and in the detachable speakers are rechargeable batteries alongside Bluetooth for wireless pairing. It supports Dolby Atmos, of course, but also DTS:X. AirPlay 2, Alexa Multi-Room Music and Chromecast are all on board. The amplification totals 1,170 watts of power: 650 watts for the soundbar, 300 watts for the subwoofer and 110 watts for each of the surround speakers. The JBL Bar 1300X is part of JBL’s new Bar series that consists of no less than nine new entries. One thing to keep in mind is that there are two Bar 1300 variations with the simple Bar 1300 featuring a 10″ subwoofer that seems to be aimed for European and other markets while the Bar 1300X we have here for testing comes with a 12″ subwoofer and is released in the US market. All other specifications are exactly the same so you are not going to lose anything else. The surround speakers feature a full-range driver and a tweeter for the rear surround effects, another full-range driver for the rear vertical effects and two passive radiators for more bass. Despite their small size (20.2 x 6 x 13.9cm), the JBL Bar 1300’s surround speakers are equipped with three drivers and two passive radiators. The JBL Bar 1300X has a great stereo frequency response without the satellites on. As with most premium bars, it has a room correction tool to calibrate its sound based on your room's acoustics, which is nice. With it on, the bar has a good overall sound, with a clear reproduction of voices and instruments in the mix. The big sub brings plenty of rumble in the bass, too, which is great for genres like EDM and hip-hop. First comes the included remote and from the looks of it JBL decided to update its design also along with the bars themselves. The remote is very simple and low cost looking but is slightly better than what previous JBL units came with. The new one still has big round buttons with enough space between them but the layout is completely different.The second, much-less-secret weapon is the 1300X’s mini-fridge of a subwoofer, which sports a 12-inch woofer that matches or exceeds every other competitor. You’re just not going to get this kind of authoritative sound displacement with smaller drivers, and you will absolutely feel the ground-shaking, shelf-rattling difference. The sub is also fast and musical enough to keep up with rhythmic effects, matching well with its soundbar counterpart. Unusually for rear speakers, the detachable units you get with the JBL Bar 1300 lie flat, retaining the 60mm height of the soundbar, rather than standing on their ends. This is an attractive approach if you ’ re putting the rears on a shelf or bit of furniture, though the flat but deep profile could be a bit problematic if you want to hang the rears on your wall. LG's C-series TVs are comfortably the most popular OLED TVs out there, but it's fair to say that they don't sound amazing.
