About this deal

Joey Porter Jr. ran a 4.46-second 40-yard dash at the NFL combine. (Photo by Zach Bolinger/Icon Sportswire) Jay Porter, beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and friend passed from this life on November 2, 2021 from complications related to chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He was 48 years old. Jay was held a hero for bringing down Cole Oil and he was still riding high off of that win, although he was beginning to sour on the current case he had pending. While fighting and dealing with a new beast threatening the lives of his new clients literally, a young girl is found dead during Election Night. This hit a little too close to home having a young teen himself. Who on earth would want this young teen dead? Now Jay is faced with another dilemma. Someone on the campaign trail is accused of this young lady’s murder. Several of the political players have called upon Jay for his expertise and literally begging him to help defend the young man accused of this crime. Well, that is, one political figure in particular seeks out Jay’s assistance for his nephew, who is the one being accused of the heinous act. There’s murder, mayhem and political tug-of-wars so what’s not to love about this story, you ask?

Paranoid from his previous brushes with the law, Porter does not go to the police with what happened, sure he is likely to become a target. But the case won't leave him alone, because suddenly a mysterious stranger tells him to stay out of the case. Of course, Porter won't, and that leads him into an increasingly murky and harrowing investigation of why the woman he rescued was involved in a shooting death.I don't (do interviews) because it's his journey and his time," Porter Sr. said. "I don't ever wanna make the situation about me because it's not, it's about him." Jay is survived by his children Edward, David, Aaron and Jason Porter, his 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren his brothers Bud Bergstrom, Wayne Bergstrom, Gene Raymond Porter and his sister Cathy Paula. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Ilene and his sisters Judy Scinto and Karen Giacopozi. He writes the “Jay Porter” series and stand alone novels. His debut novel, “Junkie Love” was released in the year 2013. Joe’s work is from the memoir and crime genres.

Porter Jr. earned first-team All-Big Ten honors in his final season at Penn State. He had a career-high 11 pass breakups and his 3.7 opponents' yards per attempt thrown in his direction was tied for fourth best in the FBS. Give Up the Dead” is the third novel in the “Jay Porter” series, which was released in the year 2017. Three years have gone by since Jay Porter, estate clearing handyman came close to losing his life after a devastating accident on the thin ice on Echo Lake. His work uncovering a kids-for-cash scandal might have made Ashton, New Hampshire safer, but nothing is ever without a price. The uncredited, traumatic events cost Jay his son and his wife, and now he has a permanent leg injury. Jay starts looking into Emily’s disappearance, and finds that everybody that knew Emily swear she has never used drugs. She is a straight shooter and is interning at a newspaper that is investigating the Center and the horrible secret hidden either in it or beneath it.He is preceded in death by his grandparents Jay and Barbara Tompkins, and Gerald and Ruth Porter. He is survived by his husband David Smith, his parents Judy and Larry Porter, as well as his sisters – Julie and her husband Kasey Scott; Lyndi and her husband Brad Zavy – as well as his beloved nieces and nephews: Porter Zavy, Juniper Jay Scott, Robin Scott and Vivian Zavy. Also surviving, David’s family: Meg and David Smith, and sister Rebecca Smith of Adelaide, Australia, as well as adoring aunts and uncles, cousins, colleagues and friends across the world. He spent plenty of time on NFL sidelines, including the Steelers' Super Bowl XL win over the Seattle Seahawks. Joey Porter Sr. celebrated winning Super Bowl XL with his namesake, Joey Porter Jr. [left] and his youngest son, Jacob Porter [right]. G. N. Lowrance/NFLPhotoLibrary Jay was born in Oklahoma City on April 5, 1973. He attended Putnam City North High School where he was both student council president and editor of the paper. An English major, he graduated from Yale University in 1995. After graduation, he returned to Oklahoma City, where he absolutely doted on his younger sisters. In 1999, Jay moved to Seattle, where he met the love of his life, David Smith. So saddened to hear of your great loss, I knew Randy through my son Bryan who I worked for, he and Randy became very close friends, ... Read more he began to feel like a son to me and although I have not seen him for about four years there is a soft spot in my heart for him and I will never forget his energetic outgoing and lovable personality. My heart goes out to all his family and friends, especially his daughters, he will be with you in your hearts forever. Read less given the electoral mayhem going on in the US right now, it was an interesting time for me to read this book and it felt like a good complement to the US's current election cycle. shenanigans, i tell you. shenanigans!

Jay and David married in May 2004, and spent the next 17 years sharing travel and food adventures, moving up and down the West Coast, with a five year stint in Chicago before finally settling in Napa, California. He was always excited to try something new and experience everything the world had to offer him. Jay was the perfect host, a generous friend, a warm shoulder, and a loving husband. He and David shared a marriage that was admired by everyone who knew them.Pleasantville is a historical neighborhood in Houston, Texas, “a planned community…built specifically for Negro families of means and class” in the wake of World War II, and one of its favorite sons, Axel Hathorne, has just entered a runoff election for mayor of Houston. The same night, someone is watching Alicia Nowell, a teenage girl who had been handing out leaflets door-to-door for the election as she stands on a street corner waiting for her ride, “still wanting to believe a way out was possible, but already knowing, with a creeping certainty, that this this night had turned on her, that her disappearing had already begun.” How’s that for a hook? The Baltimore Ravens leaned on that familiarity in 2018 when they selected Orlando Brown Jr. in the third round. It's interesting to note the parts of the story that remind the reader of the time and place being described. One clue is the lingering aftermath of the 1973 OPEC oil embargo and the beginning indications of the 80s oil glut. Another 1980s fact of life is that it seems that everybody is smoking in offices and public places. (Amazing we didn't all die of second hand smoke.) Also, nobody has a cell phone. (Life was so dangerous then with no cell phones to call for help when needed.) I remember as a young kid, I did one-on-ones with [ Antonio Brown] so that was a nice treat," Porter Jr. said at the NFL combine. "I know he wasn't going 100%, but just to be able to line up against him was something special."
