About this deal

The duchess, taking Bosola into her confidence, tells him that Antonio is her children’s father. Bosola praises their relationship, and he agrees with her instruction for him to take her coin and jewelry to Antonio. Bosola suggests the duchess disguise her plan to meet Antonio at Ancona by feigning “a pilgrimage to Our Lady of Loretto, scarce seven leagues from fair Ancona.” The duchess and Cariola leave, and Bosola, now alone, feels he must tell Ferdinand of this news, hoping to gain from the revelation. Analysis Bosola’s lines here are also interesting because of how they contradict what he has said earlier. When Ferdinand first hands him money, Bosola doesn’t hesitate to ask, “Whose throat must I cut” (1.1.240), yet when Ferdinand tells him he does not want him to kill but to spy, Bosola expresses sudden and vehement opposition, saying, “should I take these, they’d take me to hell” (1.1.256). Yet now, when looking upon the corpses of the Duchess and her children, he changes his tune--”other sins only speak; murder shrieks out.” He has not yet shown true regret for what he has done, but perhaps he has begun to see just how dark his deeds were. So when did she change her mind about wanting to be a boy? With a smile, she says, ‘I think when I went on holiday to France when I was around 15.’ When she discovered boys? ‘When they discovered me!’ she laughs. In this passage, it is clear how different the Duchess is from the sly, plotting, unchaste widows that her brothers recently described. Though she shows boldness in proposing to Antonio and then inviting him to bed, she shows no sign of being unchaste. She has already married Antonio, of course, but even so, she wants to lie in bed with him even if they were to “lay a naked sword between” them to keep them chaste. When asked about the rise of Hollywood stars who become brands, such as Gwyneth Paltrow with her Goop business, Collins replied: “When I was doing ‘Dynasty,’ I had a million brands. I had hats. I had glasses. I still have glasses or eyewear as they call it. I still have a line of eyewear. I’ve had beauty, makeup, skincare, hats, clothes. I’ve had a million brands.

This book Selena is a recent window and comes to Aiden Trewlove's notorious club. She's masked and on a questionable mission. They are drawn to each other, and Aiden is more than willing to break his own rules and satisfy her deilsires. They find themselves trying to make a deal with each other and don't realize they can't keep their hearts out of it... Selena is a widow and in dire straits. Her family is poor and she wants to give her siblings the freedom she did not have. But for that she would need to be raising a ducal heir, and she is not. Selena was played with this cool, calm voice and it fit her so well. She was the quintessential Duchess. I also liked that she had actually not had a bad marriage, no her husband had been kind, but they had been friends only. That is why her choices had me wondering, and I did not know what route I wanted her to take. The Duchess and her family leave “this great ruin,” which is still not without purpose--they can still “make noble use” of it. In contrast, the Cardinal and Ferdinand are “wretched...things,” and though he calls them eminent it is clear that their eminence was in position rather than character, since their shallowness will not outlast their deaths. Instead, their essence disappears as easily as a footprint in snowfall when the sun shines. That it is the sun - a symbol of hope, light, and renewal - that erases their legacy further emphasizes the hopeful bent to this message. But Joan has plenty of projects in the pipeline herself and has no plans to retire. ‘People say, why don’t you put your feet up? I do put my feet up and I don’t do anything I don’t enjoy,’ says the actress (she prefers not to be called an ‘actor’), who recently filmed the medieval drama series Glow and Darkness alongside Jane Seymour, and the movie Tomorrow Morning, out later this year.A recent widow, Selena Sheffield, Duchess of Lushing, has never known passion, not until Aiden's slow, sensual seduction leads her on a journey of discovery and incredible pleasure. But her reasons for visiting the notorious club are not all that they seem. These lines are central to Bosola’s character, and define his great mistake in the play. Rather than act morally and independently, striving to be “an honest man,” he strives to be “a true servant,” acting according to the moral laws of Ferdinand’s very twisted world instead of the true morality of “all the world.”

But really it was because he made me turn down several movies, including Sons and Lovers. It was stupid of me not to have done it, but you make mistakes. Show me a person who hasn’t made a mistake and I’ll show you somebody who hasn’t lived. Having battled against the ageist attitudes of film and TV companies, she does think the tide is now turning as older women are increasingly being cast in leading roles. ‘I think maybe at last producers and directors have realised that, if they are going to be showing real life in the movies, then they are going to have to have people who are older. Look at Helen Mirren and Judi Dench – they are far more popular than me,’ she says modestly. In case of a discrepancy between these Agency Terms & Conditions and any other Canopy & Stars literature, these Agency Terms & Conditions shall prevail. This emphasis on the insignificance of rank in the face of death and tragedy is important because it shows the true depths of the difference between the Duchess and her evil brothers. They have nothing but their rank and their associated power, and so when they are faced with death, they die without courage and “leave no more fame behind ‘em than” (5.5.113) a footprint in snow exposed to the sun. The Duchess, on the other hand, by dying so nobly, leaves the mark of the her spirit behind, which ultimately allows for hope at the end in the form of her surviving son, the true “light.”

Conclusion

Did this installment live up to expectations? In one way it did - I fell even deeper in love with Aiden Trewlove who had such an inate goodness, a sweet decency that just pulled at my heartstrings. At the same time he was sexy and very physical which provided some really hot scenes throughout this story. I loved his protective sense and the love he had for his family was heart-warming. You deserve better than to be bedded." His low voice thrummed through every nerve ending she possessed. "You warrant a scandalous and thorough seduction." [...] "Every woman merits more than a bedding. Each is deserving of seduction." I was thinking of giving this book 2.5 or 2.8 stars, but I liked how it got more exciting at the end, so I just decided to round up. Aiden's father, the earl, has a stroke when they're beating him up and his wife who he tried to poison with arsenic so he could marry Selena (yes, both the father and son wanted her...) decides to care for him, but lies and tells him that the current heir isn't really his son... Since then, her striking beauty has famously caught the eye of many of the world’s most desired men. Frank Sinatra asked her to fly to Hamburg to have dinner with him, but she turned him down as she did Dean Martin, Richard Burton and the US senator Bobby Kennedy.I have read and enjoyed the previous books in this series and I think I've been most eager for Aiden's story, so I was excited to start it.

Aiden was immediately drawn to the woman who entered his Elysium club. He couldn’t even see her face, but he felt the invisible thread pulling him in. After showing her around the club, she told him she wanted to be bedded and he told here that the servers with the red dots on their uniforms would accommodate her. Then, she told him that she wanted him only. It took a while for Selena, widowed Duchess of Lushing's, purpose in coming to the Elysium Club to be revealed so I'll just "spoil" it here. (It's barely a spoiler.) Selena's husband just died and to secure the lands, the manor house, the money to provide for her siblings, she needs to have his son. However, in all the years she's been married to him, they never produced any offspring. She knows she still hasn't conceived his child when he dies, so she needs to find a man to provide her with that son she can pass off as the late duke's. She chooses Aiden Trewlove. To be honest, it would have been easier for her to have chosen someone else, someone a little less principled, probably someone who wasn't a bastard himself. So far, this has been my favorite if the series! This is a perfect example of LH putting her characters in difficult, morally grey situations. She writes her characters so well that you empathize with them and feel how hard it is for them to get out of their situations. Overall, it was a book I couldn't put down with a grand gesture from her that I think I read 4 times before I could continue. I can't wait for the next book in the series. The Owner reserves the right to sue the guest for any loss, damage or injury caused to the Owner, the Property or to other guests and/or their property. The author of more than 60 novels, she writes historical and contemporary romance for adults and historical romance for teen readers. Lorraine Heath has always had a soft spot for emotional love stories. No doubt because growing up, watching movies with her mom, she was taught that the best movies "won't half make you cry."
