About this deal

Work with Local Authorities and the hospitality sector to develop a model for hospitality-led regeneration hubs, with demonstrators delivered in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. What is a hospitality industry? What are some examples? Hotel chains, motels, resorts, restaurants, theme parks, and a variety of other businesses are all part of this large industry. It's also possible to do part-time study while working. Some employers will support you to take industry-related training or a relevant postgraduate course to enhance your career development with them and bring new skills to your workplace.

You may be investing in a Hotel or Restaurant as a private individual or consortium at arms-length; as the owner, or as a lender. There are numerous sectors in the hospitality industry that can be classified. Food and beverage is the top sector, followed by accommodations, travel and tourism, and entertainment and recreation. Derived from the latin word “hospes”, meaning host (one who provides lodging or entertainment for a guest or visitor), hospitality has its roots in ancient history. The ancient Greeks used the word "xenia" to define the sacred rule of hospitality: the generosity and courtesy shown to those who are far from home or associates of the person bestowing guest-friendship. Away from home, surrounded by strangers and yet feeling welcome. In China and India, the growth of business travel is particularly steep due to the relentless pace of economic expansion in this part of the world. Our hospitality sector is already world renowned, but we want to bolster that by strengthening the link between hospitality and international tourism and further developing the sector’s presence on the global stage. But perhaps most importantly, we want everyone to recognise the social value of our hospitality businesses.

There is complexity to delivering a profitable Hotel or Restaurant, with the demands of optimising different profit and cost centers within the one unit whilst sustaining customer delight. While structural issues and the unprecedented circumstances posed by the pandemic have left the sector facing many challenges, they have also highlighted its adaptability and capacity for innovation. Hospitality businesses have proven to be incredibly resilient and have adapted their operations in a range of different ways – from providing takeaway meals and Home Food Kits to embracing new technology and maximising the use of outdoor space. This adaptability offers a blueprint for the future and gives hope that the businesses that have survived during the pandemic, and those that follow, will emerge stronger than before. Our vision for the future of the hospitality sector We recognise that the hospitality sector is facing a significant recruitment challenge as it reopens. Some regions, such as London, and specific professions (chefs and sommeliers) have been particularly impacted, with some businesses introducing bonus schemes for staff recommending friends to fill roles. [footnote 18] A lot of best practice and guidance already exists for hospitality businesses. We will work with the sector to meet, create, and share best practice on environmental guidance to help businesses decarbonise supply chains and achieve Net Zero by, for example, using seasonal local produce or shortening the food supply chain and linking the producer to the end user. This includes supporting the Waste and Resources Action Programme ( WRAP) to further develop their sector-specific tools and initiatives for the hospitality industry. We will work with the sector to raise the profile of skills and careers in hospitality. By promoting different professional areas and using relatable brand champions and influencers, we can help to inspire pupils, parents and prospective employees and demonstrate the potential of a career in hospitality.

Known for being one of the main industries that is easily impacted by external forces, many questions have recently come up regarding the state of hospitality today. What trends are shaping its future? What makes it still one of the world's fastest-growing industries? How can it remain competitive? How to deal with the post-Covid staff shortages? Hotel operators are seeking to expand their portfolios through targeted acquisitions of smaller regional chains. Work with the sector on access finance, including working with the government-owned British Business Bank and its delivery partners. ResiliencePre-pandemic, the hotel and motel industries (i.e., hospitality) employed approximately 173 million workers. In our primarily post-pandemic world, the hospitality industry and its partners remain massive global employers. 2022 brought 22 million new jobs to the sector, representing an almost 8% increase since 2021. In 2023, the hospitality positions accounted for one of every ten available jobs. The hospitality sector offers good prospects for early responsibility, so if you show a willingness and ability to learn, you can gain experience of supervising and training new staff early on in your career.

As the accommodation and restaurant industry is creating jobs at the fastest rate of any sector in the economy according to the International Labor Organization, fuelling this growth with the right skilled labor is yet another concern for owners. Attracting and retaining younger generations of hospitality professionals will require a lot of flexibility and attention from hoteliers in the future. Finally, on 19 July, all remaining settings will reopen, including nightclubs, and there will be no restrictions on the number of people who can meet, either indoor or outdoor. In line with the outcome of the Social Distancing Review, the Events Research Programme and the Certification Review the sector will be able to trade without legal restrictions and social distancing rules will be lifted. Read on to find out the experts' guide on what is happening in this exciting, evolving, and resilient sector. We want the hospitality sector to be resourceful and environmentally friendly, and supportive of the government’s ambitious Net Zero goals. To do this, we will work with the sector to: British suppliers can also access a wider network of consumers through initiatives such as VisitBritain’s Tourism Exchange Great Britain, which is a business-to-business platform that connects England’s tourism suppliers with international distributors.Major players in the industry - such as Accor - have already realized the immense potential of new technologies and are currently looking for ways to incorporate them into their client offering. Many smaller hotel brands and independent hotels are slow to adopt new technologies, in part due to costs as well as the skills gap the hospitality labor market is experiencing. 89% of travel and tourism companies think the skills gap in local labor markets is a barrier to adoption of new technologies. Hospitality management jobs encompass the planning, coordination, and execution of events and operations within the hospitality industry. This may include working in hotels, restaurants, catering, resorts, and other event venues. A hospitality manager may be responsible for a wide range of duties, from overseeing event staff and managing budgets, to coordinating event logistics and ensuring a positive experience for guests. With the impact of climate change becoming more and more apparent, societal pressure on providers in all industries is mounting. First steps are being taken, for instance, in the fight against single-use plastic products that are part of the roughly 300 million tons of plastic produced each year. Many major corporations and businesses are opting to ditch single-use plastics from their day-to-day operations and the hospitality space is no different.
