About this deal

If possible, try to buy your car seat from a retailer with a fitting service and trained fitters. You may be able to phone up and make an appointment. The store should also be able to take the seat out to your car after you've bought it and fit it properly there. Our guide on how to fit a baby or child car seat has more details.

You say you're not clear about the advantages of a Peg-Perego over a traditional booster. I was thinking weight (at 6.7 kg it's not a feather but ordinary boosters can be heavier) and bulk, because it folds kind of flat and is easier to carry around. We have taken a few flights with an ordinary car seat in a huge shoulder bag - not fun, with the car seat that you can't place on top of the suitcase trolley, and which keeps swinging from your shoulder. Read more: Choosing the best portable booster car seat The hifold booster seat fits great for our 8.5 year old It’s also critical that your child achieve a safe seatbelt fit in any booster seat she’s going to use – more on that later in this mifold review. Usually we like kids to be at least 5 to ride in a booster, as that’s generally how long it takes to them to reach the maturity to sit properly all the time. Some kids are ready for that responsibility at 4.5. If she’s over 40lbs and you’re confident she’ll sit properly 100% of the time, the hifold could be an appropriate choice.

Extended rear-facing car seats, that let you keep your child rear-facing until the age of four/18kg/105cm, are becoming more common, and crash tests show they're much safer. The mifold comfort is an ultra-portable booster seat that folds in half like a clamshell and weighs about as much as a hardcover book. As you can see above, it’s tiny! It's been tested twice as two separate models. The crash test of the original model was downgraded because the top tether hook touched the head of the dummy and they felt this was a risk; the actual performance was 1 point better - 2.3 for frontal, which is a very good score in this category. As you can see, the performance is even better in the newer model. 1.9 for a harnessed seat is fantastic. How does the hi fold car seat compare to its older-but-smaller sibling, the mifold grab and go booster seat? It does offer a teensy bit more seating area than the original mifold as you can see below. However, that additional length moves the lap belt even further down the thighs and away from the proper position.

The Urban Kanga is only 3 kg urbankanga.com/en/car-seats/ and doesn't require isofix, but goes only up to 4 years If you’re riding in a car with adjustable head restraints, be sure to move it up so that your child has full support at least to the tops of the ears (but ideally to the top of the head). mifold review: seatbelt fit Experts agree that the safest way to transport babies is in a rearward-facing infant carrier or baby car seat. A good baby car seat will help to protect your baby in frontal and side-impact crashes. Now on to my even tinier child… she’ll be 7 soon but is only around 45″ and 45 pounds. She’s small for her age but still well within range for the mifold, which now starts at 40lbs and 40″. We’ve had a hard time getting a good fit for her in a few boosters because she has a short torso – she could still fit in plenty of convertible car seats but is mature enough to handle a booster seat. As long as a booster seat fits her properly, it’s an extremely safe choice for her age, size and developmental level. Second-hand car seats will have wear and tear that could affect the safety protection. The harness, for example, could have been cleaned with harsh chemicals that can make the fabric deteriorate, or the seat could have been involved in a crash and weakened. These are things you can't tell just by looking at the seat.

It feels like we’re living in the golden age of innovative baby and kid gear. Brands are realizing that parents are willing to pony up for game-changing products that make life easier, and parents with ideas and know-how are getting involved in design as well. Babies can move up to a forward-facing Group 1 seat when they reach 9kg, but we think this is far too early because their bodies may not be strong enough. It's safer to leave a baby rear-facing until they're at least 13kg or 15 months old - preferably longer. As I mentioned above, the new mifold comfort is approved for visitors to use in almost every country. If it fits a child well, that’ll be a huge relief for parents worried about the legality of using an American car seat on vacation. mifold comfort vs mifold originalYour car and car seat must have Isofix, a system that attaches car seats directly to the frame of your car using connectors (either on an isofix base or on the seat itself). Overall, my kids and I like the hifold fit & fold booster seat. As you can see in the photos here, we had no issue getting a safe seatbelt fit on both of them thanks to all of the adjustments. Advantages of the hifold fit and fold booster If you have a kid who is 5-8 years old and you’ll be traveling, the hifold is an excellent choice. It’s safe, it’s legal almost everywhere, it’s comfortable and it’s relatively portable. There’s truly a lot to love here for globetrotting families! Costa Rica Who is the hifold fit-and-fold for? The hifold booster car seat gives a perfect fit on our small 5.5 year old!
