About this deal

Ali died in 1951 of pneumonia in Cambridge at the age of 53. The Master of Emmanuel, Edward Welbourne, who had been Rahmat Ali’s tutor during his student days, covered his hospital and funeral costs. He is buried in Cambridge City Cemetery. On this day our first thoughts go to the architect of this freedom, the Father of our Nation, who, embodying the old spirit of India, held aloft the torch of freedom and lighted up the darkness that surrounded us.

Years later, in a book called Freedom at Midnight, Mountbatten is quoted as saying, “The date I chose came out of the blue. I chose it in reply to a question. I was determined to show I was master of the whole event. When they asked had we set a date, I knew it had to be soon. I hadn't worked it out exactly then—I thought it had to be about August or September and I then went out to the 15th August. Why? Because it was the second anniversary of Japan's surrender.” (Mountbatten served as Supreme Allied Commander of the Southeast Asia Command in World War II, who later signed on Japan's formal surrender.) So why midnight? Annarah Cymone as Sandra, a member of the Midnight Club who has terminal lymphoma and is a devoted Christian Cyborgs stand in the way of humanity in this episode (William Chris Sumpter), whose Midnight Club tale is about Rel and his boyfriend Christopher finding a VCR that records the future. At first the boys think they’ve made a fortunate discovery, but like all Pike plots, the VCR is not what it seems, and a sinister truth is brimming underneath its surface. The book looks at events through the eyes of Lord Mountbatten,India's last viceroy. He is the good guy as far as the authors are concerned, and "must save India from itself." Otterson, Joe (May 5, 2020). " 'The Haunting of Bly Manor' Team to Adapt 'Midnight Club' as Netflix Series (EXCLUSIVE)". Variety. Archived from the original on October 5, 2021 . India at transition is truly an awesome entity that will have to be managed when the British Raj departs: What I appreciated about the book is that it clearly showed the impossible situation of the Labour government who had inherited such an awful polarization between the Moslems and the Hindus. The research about Mountbatten I am sure is worthy research.

Every Indian has grown up on a staple of myths and legends associated with our freedom fighters. These fables have a tendency to sweep history in very broad strokes, ignoring much and instead forcing us into believing generalised facts such as those about all Britishers/foreigners being diabolic, all freedom fighters being pious to the hilt and many others. Well, be rest assured that this book will end up ripping out each of those notions and burning them to cinders. The book is told in a casual style, similar to the authors' previous works, Is Paris Burning? and O Jerusalem!.Readers in Pakistan may find it particularly off-putting as it gives a very negative portrayal of Pakistan's founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah and essentially is an argument against partition. My recent analysis of Nkrumah’s midnight speech reflects on how he used his performance at the moment of Ghana’s independence to outline his vision of colonial freedom. Nkrumah’s revolutionary rhetoric refused the narrow grounds on which Britain was offering Ghana independence. Instead, he sought to generate new forms of belonging outside the conditions that were the remnants of colonialism.
