John Alderton - Sam Jones, Elvis Cridlington, Station Officer Steele, Penny Morris, Trevor Evans, Dilys Price, Bella Lasagne, Norman Price, Sarah Jones, and James Jones (1987-1994) Having kept their relationship under disguise as close friendship all this time, in the Series 9 episode Norman's Big Fossil Adventure, Penny inadvertently reveals it to Sam and Station Officer Steele by kissing Elvis after he admits that he tried to save Penny's job by getting himself fired. Since then they have continued their relationship whilst maintaining a high standard of professionalism at work. However, this has never been confirmed by any of the show's creators, but many fans consider them to be a couple. The original idea came about from two ex-firemen from London, England – Dave Gingell and David Jones after purchasing a stop motion animation book by artist Anthony Miller. They approached Mike Young, creator of SuperTed, in Barry, Wales, and asked him to further develop their concept. The idea was then brought to S4C's Director of Animation, Chris Grace, who had previously commissioned SuperTed, saw potential in the idea and commissioned the series. The characters and the storylines were created by Rob Lee, an illustrator from Cardiff, and the programme was made using stop motion. Fireman Sam proved so popular that several iterations of the TV series were produced, as well as various movies, stage productions, and even a musical. In 2003, a new series was created that introduced an Australian character, Tom Thomas, a rescue pilot who flew a helicopter known as the Wallaby One. Following the recruitment of two new members ( Ellie and Arnold) in Heroes of the Storm, Elvis takes on a more senior role within the fire service and starts acting responsibly. Whilst Sam was away rescuing Penny and the children from the old mines, Elvis is tasked with being the leader to is able to successfully prepare Pontypandy for a hurricane. As a result of his success, Elvis earns the respect from all his fellow citizens that he truly deserves. Jupiter is now an aerial rescue pump receiving elements of the Bedford 6x4 whilst gaining the extra wheelset (rIn series 6 Jupiter's front end was facelifted and is taken from the elements of the Volvo FL6 which got modified with new headlamps, a yellow strip and two strobe lights on either side.) and can seat three people. Between Fireman Sam Seasons 1-4, Jupiter had four wheels. Since Fireman Sam Season 5, it has had six wheels.

OMC Electronics made a Fireman Sam Kiddie ride in 1993 which is based on the Jupiter from the Original Series with Sam, Elvis and Station Officer Steele inside and 3 Buttons. It plays the Fireman Sam theme tune and the emergency theme. His relationship with Sam is shown to have evolved into a good friendship, however Elvis does still count on him for a lot of safety advice and firefighting tips. During The Great Fire of Pontypandy, Elvis risks his own life by leaping across to save Sam from getting hit by a burning branch showing he would do anything for the people he cares about. For this self act and guiding the people of Pontypandy out of the forest, Elvis accomplishes his dream of earning The Medal of Outstanding Bravery (which is the highest honour available to any firefighter in all of Wales). However more importantly to him he earns the respect of his mentor/best friend who calls him "a true hero".
