About this deal

Today’s post will be shorter, and a little break from watercolors, to review Caran d’Ache Neocolor II water-soluble wax oil pastel. I will also do a little comparison with the Crayola Portfolio Series water-soluble oil pastels.

I personally do love how easy it is to do watercolour painting with Caran D’Ache Neocolor II, but my favourite way of using these pastels is actually a mix of both wet and dry. In my painting of Yu below, I have added the whites dry to the painting as a finishing touch for highlights. My painting of Yu Morisawa (a.k.a. Creamy Mami) using Caran D’Ache Neocolor II both wet and dryI hesitated to post these. But, you are here reading this for a review and examples, so it’s only fair that I show them. If I would have used less water, or a brush, things would have turned out differently.

Neocolor IIs are great for mixed media projects and cover well on many different kinds of surface because they are so opaque. Pretty much the only thing they don’t work very well on is glass. These Caran D'Ache Neocolor II Aquarelle Crayons are water-soluble crayons for a variety of applications including encaustic techniques. They are manufactured using only the best pigments to ensure brilliant, intense colours. They have excellent lightfastness, high opacity and radiant colours. All colours are intermixable. Caran D'Ache Neocolor II Aquarelle Crayons are 10cm long with a diameter of 8.6mm. By using a waterbrush, which gives a constant supply of water, spatter can be applied from the tip of the pastel . Dragging the side of a dry pastel over a very wet surface creates a number of soft misty effects, great for portraying distant trees and hillsides. Caran d’Ache Neocolor II Water-Soluble Wax Oil Pastels are available individulay or in tins of assorted colours in sets of ten, 15, 30, 40 and 84. How to paint a snowy farm scene using Neoclour III scraped shavings of sky blue followed by moss green and olive brown into the nearer hillside then solubilised these shavings with a flat brush, which achieved a transition from a misty hilltop down into the group of trees below. I added silver grey to sharpen the edge of the farmhouse rooftop and malachite green to add ivy and branches into the group of trees. Caran D'Ache of Switzerland. Woodland Walk, Neocolor II water-soluble wax oil pastel on Fisher 400, (25.5x30.5cm) How to paint a Welsh farm scene using Neocolour II The artist and Caran d’Ache have joined forces to dream up two assortments of 10 Neocolor® II Aquarelle pastels. One in cold shades, playing on a range of blues, greens and pinks. The other in warmer tones with a range of yellows, oranges and umber. Two original palettes consisting of the artist’s favourite colours. You always know what colours to expect when using Neocolor IIs wet or dry. A lot of other brands in this medium look a little dull when used dry and get a lot more vibrant when water is added, which personally I have never liked. Neocolor IIs have the rare advantage in this medium to look nearly exactly the same colour dry as when wet, making it much easier to judge values and hues, and thusly to combine wet and dry techniques. Painting of a siamese fighting fish/betta fish I made for Inktober using Neocolor 2s Welsh Farm, Neocolor II water-soluble wax pastel on Sennelier Rough 140lb watercolour paper, (25.5x33cm) Keep up to date with all our art challenges and podcasts by signing up for our newsletter Which paper to use with Neocolor iiNeocolors are one of my go-to art materials for art journaling. They are versatile and the colors are luxurious and saturated. They have a buttery smooth texture. The pastels achieved a good effect for the posts when I pressed hard then reduced the pressure as I drew downwards. How to paint a woodland scene using Neocolour II |Water-soluble wax oil pastels that can also be used dry! Tim Fisher shows how to create a wide variety of effects on different surfaces with Neocolour II from Caran d'Ache. Top features: After allowing the surface to dry, I worked with dry pastels to develop the painting, starting with a dark grey, which helped to establish the darks. Breaking off a short piece of burnt sienna, I dragged this across the top of the trees, the foreground bush and the facing wall of the barn on the left. I then developed the lit sides of the other building by working dry raw sienna over the walls.
