About this deal

That said latest album ‘Half Way There’ released in 2019 is the record Busted were always supposed to make, yet couldn’t at the time. Commercially, aside from a strong first week chart placing, it didn’t sell.

I was indeed attending a High School when Busted first came on the scene. My uncle chided me on my Americanism when I mentioned it by name; needless to say, I had the last laugh. Who’s David, you ask? This David was actually at a “high school” at this point, except it wasn’t called that, it was simply The Thomas Hardye School. The feeder schools below that (one of which was literally next door) were and are called “middle schools” though. Individual random facts:-". Busted Online. Archived from the original on 4 March 2016 . Retrieved 4 January 2016. I don’t think I thought anything of the lyrics to “Who’s David?” at the time. I was vaguely aware it was some kind of breakup song, but a lot of the words are rather indecipherable unless you’re listening carefully. Having a lyric about “sleeping around the town” does seem pretty gross for a band that seemed to mainly appeal to pre-teens, although it was hardly alone in that era.

Take a look through Busted's career from the band's formation to their tour:

you are correct that this also had one of the worst first week sales not just of their career but for a number one in the 00s; Music Week suggests it was just over 30,000 (50 of which were a limited cassette run that thus makes this the last chart topper to be released on the format unless I’m mistaken). James Bourne said: “I’m beyond excited to begin a new chapter with Warner Chappell! My songwriting over the last 20 years has taken me on the most amazing journey. I still feel like I have a lot more to offer as a songwriter and an artist. Onwards!” Arhiva romanian top 100 – Editia 14, saptamina 5.04 – 11.04, 2004" (in Romanian). Romanian Top 100. Archived from the original on 21 February 2005 . Retrieved 16 May 2020. There’s something slightly glam about the chorus (in both the 80s hair metal and 70s use of the word) but whereas the best of those groups would have put some kind of sledgehammer behind it, a spark of energy, something to disguise the song’s obvious deficiencies, Busted’s delivery is so featherweight they almost blow away. It’s a truly awful production which helps them none, leaving them exposed as a bunch of Jilted Johns without a decent joke or tune crying into their cans of Bass Shandy. I suppose the problem for a band like Busted in the US is how much use would Americans who aren’t anglophiles have for an act who were essentially a British riff on a US style? A bit like NBC making a US remake of Coupling when the original was pretty much just a British riff on Friends.

So on “Crashed the Wedding” we covered what is for me, Busted’s crowning glory of their number ones, and a shining example of when they were really at the peak of their powers and were as brilliant as they were. Revisiting “Who’s David” under 2023 eyes, I am feeling the same about it as you are Tom; it’s undoubtedly the weak link of singles from the ‘A Present For Everyone’ album, an awkward lyric and I dare say whiny and unlikeable beast 17 years on.Who’s David?” is a song about a cheating girlfriend. There are great kiss-off songs in pop, but as cathartic payoffs go, “I’m over you / Ooo ooo ooo / I don’t like you” isn’t exactly top tier. There are also plenty of average jealous-guy records, with varying levels of rage and contempt, entitlement and pain. Lines like “I know your pretty face / Gets far with guys / But your make up ain’t enough to hide the lies” read like they could be from some Nuggets-era compilation makeweight or Mod Revival also-ran. Answer: The song explores the complexity of romantic relationships and the difficulties faced when torn between two loves. It highlights the internal struggles, emotional turmoil, and self-discovery that arise in such situations. 5. How do the lyrics capture the burstiness of emotions? Their largest commercial selling market outside the UK/Ireland was Japan (one Gold album) and nations of most popularity were: Iceland and Denmark (two top 10 singles, and one top 10 album in Denmark; their only top 10 long form placing outside the UK/IRL)

It got me wondering just how popular Busted truly were overseas at the time, especially considering their momentum push towards the largest market in world music.

Answer: The music video for Who’s David visually enhances the song’s message, portraying the internal struggles of the protagonist through compelling visuals and storytelling. With its creative direction, the video adds another layer of depth to the overall interpretation of the song. 11. Has Who’s David remained popular over the years? In 2016, Busted reformed, signing to Warner Music’s East West label, and released their third studio album, Night Driver. They followed this up in 2019 with Half Way There, which reached No.2 in the UK albums chart. Busted – Who's David". 16 November 2015. Archived from the original on 21 December 2021 .
