About this deal

Contemplating what he saw of Fushi no Kōjyō, Shunsui believes that it is a rather extreme "Bakudō-type" Zanpakutō and congratulates Hisagi for managing to use such a difficult Bankai, a statement that Shinji is in agreement with. Moving on, Shunsui mentions that Hisagi is now eligible for promotion to captain, but Hisagi refuses, preferring to remain as the editor-in-chief of the Seireitei communications and to help spread knowledge among the world. Catching his meaning, Shunsui ominously warns Hisagi it may be best for some knowledge to remain buried, but Hisagi remains steadfast and tells Shunsui that if the Captain-Commander believes that the world is better off not knowing the truth, he should kill Hisagi then and there. [11] The Reveal: The light novel resolves some of the plot points that were Left Hanging by Bleach's abrupt end: With her final words, Kakyō apologized for not being able to "sweep away the clouds" of Tokinada's unhappiness. Upon hearing her empathetic words full of pity, Tokinada trembled with fury, completely unable to comprehend her kindness, but eventually calmed down and stated that he had hoped to show her the true ugliness of the world before admitting that, in the way he opened up to her, he did love her to some degree. [5] Tokinada's minion Hikone has this as well; as an amalgamation of Quincy, Soul Reaper, Fullbringer, and Hollow, he has the potential to succeed the Soul King and access to all of the powers that any member of those races would have, and wields an ancient Zanpakuto that allows him to summon Hollows that exceed even a Vasto Lorde in power. Ichibē prepares to leave as well, saying that he should revive the remaining Royal Guard members. Ichibē explains that, since their bones are infused with the Ōken, the Royal Guard members' very life essence is fused with the Soul King Palace. As long as the palace remains intact, Ichibē can revive the others by calling their names. While Ichibē mentions that he will not allow the rest of his squad to die easily, as is their fate, he suddenly becomes distracted as he senses someone has entered the palace without permission. [5]

Six months earlier, shortly after Yhwach's defeat, Liltotto awakens after her battle with the Wandenreich Emperor. Finding herself bandaged and healed, she wonders what happened afterwards. She finds the unconscious, but treated, Giselle and Bambietta nearby, and notices the Wandenreich logo on their pillows, suggesting they're in one of their bases in the Human World. Shortly afterwards, a female Quincy enters the room and Liltotto recognizes her as Jugram Haschwalth's loyal aide. Liltotto notes that Haschwalth's aide was stronger than most of the Sternritter, but refused to receive a Schrift because her loyalties lied with Haschwalth before Yhwach. [9]As Liltotto leaves, she promises to keep Giselle under control, not realizing that the aide kept one detail from her. Haschwalth also told his aide he considers Uryū Ishida his final test, and if he ever forfeits his role as "the balance", he will forfeit his power and life as well. [9]

The Quincy Thousand Year Blood War is over, but the embers of turmoil still smolder in Soul Society. Tokinada Tsunayashiro, elevated to head of his clan after a slew of assassinations take out every other claimant to the title, has a grand plan to create a new Soul King. His dark ambitions soon sow the seeds of a new total war across the realms, but all is not lost. There is one unlikely Shinigami who holds the key to defusing the conflict — Shūhei Hisagi, lieutenant of the Ninth Division and reporter for the Seireitei Communication! Tier Harribel survived and was rescued by Nelliel, returning to Hueco Mundo alongside the other Arrancar — though she expresses disgust at Yhwach's fate and remarks that she now understands Aizen's motives for trying to destroy Soul Society. As he hears this, Tokinada congratulates Shunsui and notes that this is why the former heads of his family never wanted to wield Enrakyōten, since the life which the Zanpakutō drains can never be returned, similar to the curse of Shinken Hakkyōken. Shunsui does not understand why Tokinada would be willing to shorten his own life just for his pleasure, but Tokinada claims that there is no point in living if he cannot gamble his life in exchange for pleasure. [8] Returning to his usual light-hearted self, Urahara banters with Yoruichi for a bit before Urahara declares that he plans to leave Karakura Town for a few days to help Ichigo with his problem in western Japan, which he claims will give him an excuse to open up a second Urahara shop there. [11] Epilogue [ ]

It's revealed that Rangiku Matsumoto was an incarnation of the Soul King akin to Mimihagi, Pernida, and Gerard; though Aizen forcibly extracted this part of her soul and fed it to his Hogyoku. Notably, Can't Fear Your Own World was adapted into the Bleach: Brave Souls mobile game, marking the first time any of the light novels has been adapted into another form of media. Before they can do more, Seinosuke arrives and begins to treat the child, convincing it that since it is merely the property of Tokinada Tsunayashiro, it is not allowed to choose its own death. This perks up the child, and it rapidly starts recovering once it realizes that dying will only make Tokinada more disappointed. [11] In the Seireitei, a few days after the end of the war with the Wandenreich, Shunsui asks Aizen if he has any last words before he is re-incarcerated in the Muken. While awaiting Aizen's words, Shunsui contemplates the massive losses of life the Gotei 13 experienced at the hands of the Quincy soldiers. While Orihime Inoue has been invaluable in helping the recovery and even reviving some of the recently deceased, even her powers have their limits. As a consequence, the Shinigami were becoming disheartened until news of victory reinvigorated them. [6]

Discussions

At the Tsunayashiro residence, Tokinada is about to leave for an important meeting, when he is approached by several assassins. Noting that the assassins came for him as Hikone was incapacitated, Tokinada reminisces about his own Zanpakutō, which has been confiscated since his initial incarceration. Regardless, he reveals that he has been using his family's ancestral Zanpakutō without permission for some time now, and decides to release it. As he faces the assassins, he releases his Shikai, Kuten-kyōkoku. [12] When Yoruichi becomes suspicious, Tokinada says that if the five Families are united as one, their authority surpasses even that of the Central 46. He then asks them if they aren't suspicious that the Shiba family was so easily removed from their status. Byakuya merely replies that without the Soul King's express permission, it would never happen. Tokinada agrees, saying the Soul King is utterly incapable of doing so to begin with, which is why he wants the five Families to be the true supreme rulers of all worlds. Because of this, he wants to replace the Soul King with someone who has free will. When realization dawns on Yoruichi and Byakuya, Tokinada says that they're not yet fully aware of the Soul King's true existence, but that Urahara is. [12] Ten years later, as Rukia Kuchiki is about to be inaugurated as Captain of the 13th Division, the topic of Hisagi's Bankai comes up during Tōshirō Hitsugaya and Rangiku Matsumoto's conversation about Tetsuzaemon Iba's diligence. When Hisagi states that he has mastered his Bankai, Rangiku and Hitsugaya claim that they have never seen his Bankai before. While Kensei does remember the events and silently chastises Zaraki for spreading the rumor about Hisagi's Bankai, he decides to remain silent about it because the events in the Valley of Screams were a highly classified secret. [12] Jinta Hanakari and Ururu Tsumugiya are revealed to be artificial life-forms similar to Nemu Kurotsuchi — something previously indicated in the latter's case during her fight with Yylfordt Granz. Ancestral Weapon: Like the Ise clan's Shinken Hakkyōke, the Tsunayashiro clan has a hereditary Zanpakuto that any of the members can utilize in addition to their personal Zanpakuto; being Kuten Kyōkoku — the true name of which is Enrakyoten, which possesses the ability to copy any Zanpakuto abilities its wielder witnesses.

Due to this, Aura decided to work against Tokinada solely to save Hikone, even if that meant that Hikone would resent her. Wanting to avoid the mistakes of her father, Aura instead wanted Hikone to experience the full world and decide their own fate. Even if Hikone were to still choose to follow Tokinada, at least the child would do so having known all their options. [9]Barrier Maiden: A rather ironic example: Yhwach's remains were used to create the new Soul King — aka the living being whose whole self is the lynchpin of everything that exists, having absorbed the power and essence of the previous one. Additionally, had Yhwach not done that, Ichibei and Shunsui would've had Ichigo become the new Soul King. In the Kizokugai, Hisagi and Hanatarō are conversing, mostly about Hisagi being in monetary debt to Urahara for the upkeep of his motorcycle. As they pass by the extravagant Tsunayashiro mansion, they note that the Tsunayashiro family wants to make it clear to everyone they are the most important of the Four Noble Families. Eventually, Hanatarō directs Hisagi's attention to the Central Pharmaceutical Institution where his brother works, but Hisagi is intimidated by the building, noting it has the same atmosphere as the Shinigami Research and Development Institute. [11] Sensing that the curse which Ichimonji placed upon its name has weakened, Ikomikidomoe swears vengeance against the Royal Guard. Just as the Hollow is about to declare its original name, it is interrupted by an annoyed Zaraki, who effortlessly destroys it with one swing of his Shikai. Calling the Hollow a mere "whimp", Zaraki looks with disappointment at the now dulled and powerless sword that used to contain Ikomikidomoe. [10] Colony Drop: Upon realizing the alliance is going to defeat him, Tokinada attempts to crash his simulated world onto the real-life Karakura town. Putting aside the revelation, Dordoni releases Giralda and uses its cyclones in combination with Harribel's water to ensnare Ikomikidomoe. In response, Ikomikidomoe fires a Cero from his eye to blow away the water, but Cirucci Sanderwicci releases Golondrina and launches its blades into Ikomikidomoe's eye. Taking advantage of Ikomikidomoe's blindness, Nelliel launches her Lanzador Verde at his eye, where the lance buries itself deep enough to prevent easy regeneration. Following on this, Charlotte Chuhlhourne also enters his Resurrección, Reina de Rosas, and uses his Rosa Blanca to deprive Ikomikidomoe from more Reishi. [7]
