However his reason was less about her and more some antiquated notion that he – the man – must be the protector and that that protection must come in the form of physical, brute strength. Sure you could argue that Madelyn (Elisabeth Shue) dosed him up with compound V. She was the type. But if that were the case, why would it take him so long to develop abilities when the understanding is that the transformation happens early on? In an interview with Deadline, Kripke alluded to the show heading toward the finishing line when he admitted the following: It's no secret that Homelander enjoyed a very special relationship with Madelyn (and by special we are of course referring to the weird mother-son dynamic, one in which she would simulator breastfeeding him one minute and engage in twisted sex the next). One of the endgame storylines in the books that we always really responded to was this notion that the vice president was literally gunning for the president and that the president was in mortal danger. If this strange precedent is true and Homelander is the only supe capable of producing natural-born supes then it gives more weight to the theory that Teddy is his child.
