About this deal

Each Science in Sport energy powder comes in a variety of flavours to suit individual preferences, in general we would recommend having a look at GO Energy or GO Electrolyte for exercise less than 2 hours, then would advise starting to look at Beta Fuel for exercise longer than this. As always though, nothing new on race day, make sure you train with any powder you are planning to use on an event!

I would say it’s still best to have water to hand to wash them down, though, and one downside of the isotonic design is that the gels are bulkier than others, so carrying enough for a marathon requires a big running belt. How many you should take during a race will depend on your experience and the intensity you’re running at. If you’re an elite or a hardened amateur used to chugging down gels and going flat-out for a PR, you might aim for 60-90g of carbs per hour during long activities. But that’s a lot of gels.

Strength of taste: With taste being a personal preference, I've chosen to quantify strength of taste instead. Here I've opted for four tiers: Mild, slightly strong, strong, and very strong. In simple terms, nootropics are substances that can enhance cognitive performance giving you that mental lift you might need, especially at the latter phases of exercise. So, as well as 40 grams carbohydrate at the 1:0.8 ratio of maltodextrin to fructose, the SiS Beta Fuel Gel with Nootropics contains 1 gram of the amino acid L-taurine, 250 milligrams of Cognizin® to enhance information processing and 200 milligrams of caffeine with 200 milligrams of L-theanine, the amino acid which has been shown to increase subjective feelings of alertness, while reducing feelings of ‘jitters’ that you get with caffeine alone. The right answer to this is the gel you’ve practiced with and found works for you, because what will upset your stomach during a run varies from person to person. I personally have found Maurten’s gels upset my stomach less, which might be down to the hydrogel used because it passes through the stomach more easily. They are worth trying if you’ve struggled with many other gels. Our science-based solution, the combination of maltodextrin and fructose in an isotonic formula, is still the key to SiS Beta Fuel, as the transportation of nutrients across the intestinal wall is a rate limiting factor in carbohydrate oxidation during exercise. In this guide, I have made a note of each product's taste where relevant, but I appreciate that what I think tastes nice is pretty unhelpful, since everyone's different. Therefore, I've instead made a point to mention the strength of taste; something with a strong taste will likely be more polarising (and therefore risky) than something with a neutral taste. Are energy gels expensive? Completing our fuelling solution is the SiS Beta Fuel Chew Bar. We know that during endurance exercise, being able to vary your fuelling choices is important. Within the new SiS Beta Fuel range, we are providing you with even more choice without compromising on quality or taste, meaning you can maintain optimal sources of energy. These chews are in a unique format to SiS, being super easy to consume and available in Orange and Lemon flavours. Reduced gastrointestinal discomfort: Unlike other gels with different carbohydrate ratios, Beta Fuel Gel minimizes symptoms of stomach fullness and nausea, ensuring a comfortable and seamless experience.

The SiS Beta Fuel gel with Nootropics contains 1g of the amino acid L-taurine, 250mg Cognizin® to enhance information processing and also 200mg caffeine with 200mg L-theanine, the amino acid which has been shown to both reduce feelings of ‘jitters’ that you get with caffeine, while increase subjective feelings of alertness. SiS Go, with its isotonic property and lower carbohydrate content, is designed to be stomach-friendly. This is a better option if you’re new to running and fueling with energy gels or have a sensitive stomach. Unfortunately it's not just as simple as going double strength as this may cause the stomach problems that the Beta Fuel is designed to avoid. Beta Fuel works by providing these two different forms of carbohydrate which can be simultaneously absorbed. What’s new?Beta Fuel gels can be used in combination with other products within the Beta Fuel range to allow you to devise the best fuelling solution for you You can, of course, dose these separately in various ways, but some gels offer a two-birds-one-stone solution. Do all energy gels taste terrible? I've been using SIS Beta Fuel for the past 10 or so months for road and cyclo-cross racing. It has been fabulous, giving me a noticeable boost in energy during the second half of a race. I've had no stomach issues and it's much easier to use, in my experience, than energy gels. For me, Beta Fuel has been a game changer and one that I'm happy to pay for. A 1:0.8 ratio of maltodextrin to fructose reduces self-reported symptoms of stomach fullness when compared with a ratio of 2:1 Our GO Isotonic Energy Gel is simply 22g of carbohydrate from our selected source of maltodextrin. This creates an isotonic formula, which causes minimal stomach discomfort during exercise, but with maximum energy absorption. USAGE:
