About this deal

A desiccant dehumidifier extracts water from the air using an absorbent material. The material is heated to turn the moist air into water, which then drips into a water tank. This type of dehumidifier is best suited to cold, unheated rooms. The other main cause of mould inside our homes is condensation. When indoor air can no longer hold moisture, condensation begins to form, particularly on cold surfaces such as windowsills, mirrors and walls. You should expect a strong odour that can be unpleasant to use so ensure that you have enough ventilation and are well prepared with a mask and goggles before you start to seal the damp area. Your best solution is to choose one of the best damp seal paints and treat the area properly, after first fixing whatever is causing the damp in the first place!

One coat damp seal paint has been formulated to seal damp patches on ceilings and walls, and as they name implies – it’d designed to do it in just one coat. If you follow the instructions and prep your walls correctly before-hand, damp seal paint should reduce the risk of damp reoccurring. How Long Does It Take Damp Seal Paint To Dry Out?

Try washing musty smelling soft furnishings in the washing machine with some white vinegar added to the usual detergent Look out for discoloured or stained areas forming – particular hot spots include chimney breasts and the corners of the room. Windows As mentioned previously, some damp and mould problems are caused by structural problems, for example, leaks in a roof, around a window or in pipes, or even rising damp.

There’s been some debate as to the effectiveness of damp seal paint, so let’s try and clarify. In a nutshell, damp seal paint does work when it’s used in the correct way and for the correct purpose. Closed curtains are great draught excluders, but they also prevent the windowpane from being warmed up by central heating. This makes the glass colder than it could be, therefore causing condensation. Keeping curtains open at night means the glass temperature will stay closer to the room temperature so condensation won’t form. If it’s not practical to keep curtains open, changing them to thinner curtains will still make a difference.
