About this deal

Just like its spiritual predecessor, the Warhammer 40,000 Command Edition, the Extremis Starter Set comes not with a glossy mat like the Warrior and Harbinger Sets, but instead a lovely board for you to play on. When not engaged in war, Templar and Stardrake spend their time maintaining their Stormhost's Drakesworm Temple, the facility where an Extremis Chamber trains and worships. [3a] Mounts What’s really great about this set is that each unit in the group of ten has distinct sculpts. Whilst there are similarities form figure to figure – as you would expect there to be – no two are the same. Swampcalla Shaman with Pot-Grot Much like the reference sheets, the Warscroll and Alliance Ability Cards are easy references for the figures in the set. The Shaman went first, trying to strike the Lord-Imperatant with an Arcane Missile. Unfortunately, he did not meet the casting value and the spell fizzled out in his hand. The Movement Phase saw the Hobgrots and Gutrippaz shuffle forwards, ready for the next two phases.

Each moving 5″ after the Shaman and succeeding on their high Charge rolls, the Vindictors all closed on the Swampcalla Shaman and Pot-grot. A bloodbath ensued. The final Gutrippa made a valiant attempt to wound another Praetor, but his two dice could not make it past the Praetors’ 3+ save. Man this is…not a good match up at all. Stormcast get a clear point advantage and the Kruleboyz minis don’t get much to work with despite outnumbering the Stormcast more than 2 to 1. The first thing of note is that the Heroes are completely different here, now Kruleboyz get the Wizard and Stormcast don’t. I think this leans into the same problem as the above box, just on the other side. The Knight-Arcanum also has a much nicer spell for new players, as doing D3 mortal wounds is immediate and understandable, while the Swampcalla’s spell that adds +1 to friendly charges and -1 to enemy charges will likely require a few games to understand the tactical uses of.

From a practical standpoint its good IMHO, since it allows more room for more tables at events and makes home games a lot easier to manage. Its also pretty close in size to the Blasted Hallowheart and Moonbase Klassius "board in a box" sets and I find those super convenient. As I said in the Harbinger review, it’s interesting that the setup for this Battleplan don’t utilise the Hobgrots, who actually have a ranged weapon on their warscroll. Either the Hobgrots’ shrapnel grenades would totally unbalance the Battleplan, or Gee-Dubyah got a little happy with the copy-pasting (something I can understand having had to review three of these boxes!). Serving as a breakthrough force, all members of the chamber have bonded with a draconic mount after enduring the hazardous Trials of Starwalking. It consists of a Lord-Celestant, a Drakesworn Temple of three Drakesworn Templars, and the Dracothian Guard's two echelons: the Lightning Echelon, consisting of Tempestors and Fulminators, and the Thunderwave Echelon, having Desolators and Concussors. [1c] Vanguard Auxiliary Chamber It will not really have much of an impact at all, at least from a fun/club/friendly perspective of my live. This is the Battleplan that takes everything you’ve learned and tested over the previous four battles and rolls it all up into one. Using all the figures and resources available in the Warrior Starter Set, the training wheels are off and it’s time to really play Age of Sigmar. All of a sudden, that Dominion box is looking much more valuable!!! There are places still selling it. So if you can, bag a copy now! The only optional build on this sprue is model J (parts 1-9) which can be built as either a Gutrippa or Gutrippa Boss Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Harbinger Starter Set – Sprue B – Vindictors The box, like the other Starter Sets, contains two Reference Sheets. These take the core-most concepts and most vital workings of a game of Age of Sigmar and strip them down further still so you can have them at your elbow during a game. If you’re looking for something special to add to your Stormcast Eternals, may we suggest Knight-Questor Dacian Anvil? This model was previously only available at events, but of course, there haven’t been many of those with the global pandemic throwing a bit of a spanner into the works.

The Chamber Command of an Extremis Chamber is comprised of three Drakesworn Templars led by a Lord-Celestant. [3a] Duties The Lord-Imperatant is parts 1-11, with parts 5 & 6 being optional helmeted and unhelmeted heads. Part 12 is a base feature. Towards the middle of the battlefield, the Vindictors charged the Gutrippaz and cut another of their number down. The Praetors, mighty weapons in hands, cut down a further pair of Gutrippaz thanks to a trio of 6-rolled Mortal Wounds and an additional wound that slunk past the Gutrippaz’ saves. Objective games get more accessible for armies with slower units as it should become easier to travel between objectives. For the same reason it may become harder to hold an objective.

When we acquired this boxed starter set, we were almost a bit unimpressed with the model suite therein, but only a bit. Because the "Dominion" boxed set, which we also reviewed, has the same models in it and more, the redundancies of having it and Extremis were a bit on the nose, even if having multiples of a given unit is a great idea for certain armies. In truth, going in mostly blind we would've preferred to see some armies from the Grand Alliances of Death or Chaos in this overall grouping of releases. It's not that more Orruks or Stormcast Eternals is a bad thing, per se, but in the first leg of a new edition, it feels better to see more diverse representation in the factions when starting out (plus we are still waiting on updated Nurgle models, truth be told!). A selection of some of the model sprues from the "Extremis" boxed starter set for Games Workshop's third edition of their fantasy tabletop wargame, Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. Aetherwing • Celestial Dracoline • Dracoth • Gryph-Charger • Gryph-Hound • Star-Drake • Star-Eagle • Star Falcon • Tauralon
