The Secret (2000) with Colin Buchanan, Hannah Yelland, Elizabeth Carling, Clare Higgins, and Stephen Moyer The characters in the show are well-developed and believable, with Emily being the standout character who undergoes a dramatic transformation from a shy and innocent girl to a strong and determined woman who stands up for what she believes in. Every now and then there seems to be a dead tide. But life has to move or we can become complacent.I often ask God "can I just catch a break from the waves crashing over me or at least a board to float on to rest from the struggles of life's tides?"

Our John Willie (1980) with Ian Cullen, David Burke, James Garbutt, John Malcolm and Malcolm Terris The show is based on the novel of the same name by Catherine Cookson, one of Britain's most beloved authors. The series is known for its strong storytelling and well-developed characters that the audience can relate to. The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense,’ says Proverbs. The wisdom available in this book bears just such an aroma, the pleasant fragrance of counsel dug from a life’s worth of experience as a Christian leader. The Tides of Life is a written version of some of the things I learned from Bill Pollard as we worked together at Wheaton College, the value of which is marked by how often I find myself passing Bill’s insights on to others. I highly recommend giving this book a close reading.” There is a wonderful quote by Joseph Campbell that touches on the core of what I am exploring here with you: She left school at 14 and, after a period of domestic service, [7] took a laundry job at Harton Workhouse [5] in South Shields. In 1929, she moved south to run the laundry at Hastings Workhouse, saving every penny to buy a large Victorian house, and then taking in lodgers to supplement her income. [6]

The problem with The Tide of Life is that while she seems perfectly sweet and capable of making normal-person decisions, she agrees to go steady with any dude who enters the frame, so you end up wondering if she has a concussion. Also a problem: the title sounds like a tampon ad. (Not Cookson’s fault; just saying.) The Tides of Life is about the choices we make in life. Choices that require navigating those changing tides and winds of life as we pursue the right choice and avoid those that will result in harm or failure. For the leader there is often only one choice to make, to lead or mislead. The production values of the show are also impressive, with stunning cinematography that perfectly captures the beauty of Northumberland's countryside, and the attention to detail in the sets and costumes is commendable. Here’s the thing about this miniseries; Gillian Kearney is a really good actress. She worked her ass off in The Forsyte Saga, and I really love the sort-of-documentary biopic she did on BBC, and — she’s not the poor soul who played Cissie Brodie, is what I’m saying. She has genuine charisma, and you root for her. Emily seems genuinely sad about this, even if most of her sadness seems to be of the “What will become of me?” ilk and not really grieving Sep. Sep did, however, leave her a token of his affection:

Fistfights: Hell yes. Also, murder, pistol-whipping, chasing someone into the ocean, and lighting a houseful of stuff on fire. Life eventually takes us all in unexpected directions. One of my favorite sayings is ‘If you want to make God laugh, just tell Him your plans!’ The Tides of Life captures the critical importance of making wise and moral choices along the way. Bill’s leadership insights and experiences integrating his faith into the ebb and flow of his own life will inspire you on your journey.” Tom and Catherine, a musical about the couple's life, was written by local playwright Tom Kelly. It played to sell-out crowds at the Customs House in South Shields. Gillian Kearney is so cute I end up being happy for Emily even though she has confused the shit out of me for three hours, and it turns out that I am not the only one who is happy for her, because as we pan away, THIS HAPPENS:

So, Ray has to move out to the random cottage on the edge of the property. And you know what Emily’s going to do? Well, she’s going to move in with him!The Tides of Life is an excellent prescription for leadership written by a master practitioner of the art. Bill Pollard has been there and done that, and when he speaks people listen. Invest in this book, read it; you will not regret it.” I am a local lad from the area of main scenes of Seaburn. There is a sense that the writer has done very well the homework here mind and is tell tale of the time we're living in today. I certainly would look round for this type of lass. At high tides, I can rest and float in the reassurance God has given me. Discovering the power to rise above adversity, experience the healing power of love from others and a newfound love for myself is all part of life. Even in the midst of confusion, peace has come and I have been given a sound mind to make the right choices. Advance: Philanthropy at Newcastle University" (PDF).
