About this deal

Here, Avallac’h recounts Ithlinne’s Prophecy and the story of Lara’s relationship with Cregennan. He advises Geralt not to seek out Ciri because he will lose her forever anyway. Avallac’h in The Lady of the Lake The Aen Elle capital city of Tir ná Lia in Witcher 3. One of my qualms about previous entries was about needless information dumping sections about political happenings one hundred years ago or who married someone else previously and what effect it had on characters I don't know. They distracted from the main story and thus far haven't heightened my enjoyment at all. There is only one such section here and although I did want to skip past it, it was an okay read but still seemed a bit like a dull interlude. Witcher's story arc is still my personal favorite because of the company he keeps and the adventures he stumbles on to. In this installment, Witcher's fellowship adds a new young member to their ranks and this completes the adopted dysfunctional family of Witcher. The scene where Geralt accuse Cahir of betrayal and the mayhem that follows afterward was spectacularly hilarious, proving once again the colorfulness of Geralt and his company. Vysogota, an elderly philosopher living alone in the Pereplut swamp, comes upon an injured Ciri near his retreat and takes her in, caring for her. During her recovery, Ciri recounts the events of the last few months. The Polish game publisher, CD Projekt, created a role-playing PC game based on this universe, called The Witcher, which was released in October 2007. There is also a mobile version of the game which has been created by Breakpoint Games and is being published by Hands-On Mobile in Western Europe,Latin America and Asia Pacific.

Leo also gets one for attempting to charge the The Wild Hunt while pursuing Ciri, surviving only because his horse panics and flees. However, the player later learns his motivation was to protect Ciri’s genes. He likely didn’t sacrifice himself because he cared for her outside of that. One might surmise that he does care for her because she’s the descendant of Lara Dorran — however, this is at odds with his disdain for humans. Of note, “The Tower of Swallows” isn't really about the eponymous witcher, Geralt of Rivia. Most real estate is devoted to Ciri telling the story of how she escaped Bonhart, a deeply menacing bounty hunter of unclear motivations; his erstwhile employer, Nilfgaardian coroner Stefan Skellen; and the Archmage Vilgefortz, who appears to be the series' main antagonist. Eventually she leaves her hiding place to make her way to the tower, followed by said pursuers, who are determined to catch her before she can enter the tower and reassume her powers. Geralt and his companions, meanwhile, are trying to make their way to Ciri or to where they believe she might be. Yennefer and Triss are also on Ciri's path, albeit on different timelines, and likely for different reasons.

Tropes found in the book:

Vysogota, an old philosopher living in the Pereplut swamp, finds an injured Ciri near his retreat and takes her in, caring for her until she is ready to continue her journey. She tells her life story to the old man: how all the Rats were killed by Leo Bonhart, all except for Ciri. As she readies herself to leave, she is convinced that both Geralt and Yennefer are dead. Based on this assumption, she leaves Vysogota to find Tor Zireael. The sixth book in The Witcher series by Andrzej Sapkowski, originally in Polish (original title: Wieża Jaskółki). An English translation, released in the United States under the slightly different title The Tower of Swallows was released in May 2016. Thanks for reading and taking the time to write such a detailed comment! My apologies for missing some things. Even though I was poring over the books while writing this, I clearly missed a few things. I love the Witcher and don’t want anything to be inaccurate, so I really appreciate this. The world has fallen into war. Ciri, the child of prophecy, has vanished. Hunted by friends and foes alike, she has taken on the guise of a petty bandit and lives free for the first time in her life. She all but walked through fire in this book, and Frodo Baggins’ journey to destroy The One Ring looks like a trip to the postage station compared to all the horrors Ciri underwent. I think it’s funny how many powerful and vicious personalities keep failing to capture this sixteen-year-old girl, and at this point, I don’t think there is anything Ciri cannot do.

Avallac’h saves her from the Wild Hunt by hiding her on The Isle of Mists. He also helps Ciri control her new powers after the Battle of Kaer Morhen. The novel has been published in Czech (Leonardo, 1998), Russian ( AST, 1999), Spanish (Bibliopolis, 2006), Lithuanian (Eridanas, 2006), German (DTV, 2010), Bulgarian (InfoDar, 2010), French (Bragelonne, 2010), Serbian (Čarobna Knjiga, 2013), Finnish (WSOY, 2015), Italian (Editrice Nord, 2015) and Portuguese (WMF Martins Fontes, 2016). An English translation was released in the United States by Orbit (titled The Tower of Swallows) in May 2016, [1] [2] and in the United Kingdom by Gollancz (titled The Tower of the Swallow) in 2017. [3] The Polish title refers to a singular swallow, so The Tower of the Swallow used by Gollancz is the more accurate translation.Spoilers ahead! If you haven’t finished the main questline, we encourage you to scroll past this section. Then later, he says, “We used to say to ourselves, what’s the difference, we’ll spend some time here, some time there, so what if the Dh’oine insist on destroying this world along with themselves? We’ll go somewhere else…”

Skilled, but Naive: Ciri, kinda. Not so much naive as weak-willed, which Bonhart exploits: since the Witchers have drilled all their killing techniques into her, she kills others on pure reflex; however, when she has a chance of killing herself, she just can't. As Bonhart explains, killing oneself requires zero technique and a whole lot of willpower... which Ciri never had a reason to foster because she was already a perfect killing machine. When Avallac’h reveals that he knows Geralt’s name, profession, and mission to find Ciri, Geralt concludes that he can foresee the future. Prior to the girls leaving, Triss had joined Nenneke and Iola in searching for Ciri via a trance. Iola had prophetic powers and Triss wanted to join in the vision, even against Nennekes wishes. Triss had already foreseen her death, with her name on the obelisk on Sodden Hill. She was prepared for the dangers of the trance. Apart from the above I pretty much like everything about this book. Just how Baptism of Fire was Geralt's book this is Ciri's book. The plot follows Ciri's life after the Rats were killed.

Everybody's Dead, Dave: The Rats no longer exist after the beginning of the book, with Ciri as the Sole Survivor.

Not long after this conversation, Ciri makes her way to the stables for her daily ride with her mare. Eredin, an Aen Elle general and the leader of the Red Riders (known as the Wild Hunt to the humans of the Continent), enters the stable. He instructs her to follow him and reveals that Avallac’h lied to her:
