In 2019, Chizmar returned, with King’s blessing (and a foreword) to show what Gwendy was up to and how the button box still played an active role in her life and its hold it had over her. I will say, here and now, that if Chizmar's name ever gets associated with King's on another retirement fund writing project, I will happily and joyfully pass, knowing I saved my eyes a bunch of rolling, and saved my money by passing on yet another polished turd. The ending was breathtaking and just left me in awe. That epilogue? Perfection. Again, it’s very rare for me to feel this way after a horror novel and I cherished every single moment of it. I genuinely closed my Kindle Paperwhite when done and just let it all soak in. All these words came into my mind when done. Unbelievable. Fascinating. Meaningful. Impactful. Magnificent. Wonderful. Unforgettable.
Gwendy Peterson, the woman who-- as a girl-- was originally put in charge of a box that could destroy the world, is now in her 60s and experiencing the first signs of Alzheimer’s Disease. She knows her condition will only get worse. Still, she has a mission: get rid of the Box once and for all. I would definitely be keen to use more of your plays - this show is light-hearted, warm and very enjoyable for teachers and children to work on. Every night the audience walked out humming the tunes, so that's always a good sign! Loved it! The access to the cottage is along a lane that the neterance to is right on the corner of the street and is a tight turn into the laneso can be a bit daunting. There is nowhere to put clothes so living out the suitcase but that's OK. The only downside is the shower is tiny and difficult to get into if you are a bit large.We have recently performed The Button Box as our end of term play and I would just like to say how wonderful it was! I am a Y6 teacher and my class absolutely loved the storyline and parts to this play (we even had to create some extra parts using the ideas within the songs!) rnWe had 3 performances in total and they were all fantastic - we had many lovely comments from parents and relatives about the production.rn Adored 'belly Button Boogie'.
The epilogue also got me. The setting, the final note and the last gift. King and Chizmar decided to really make readers blubber and struggle to read through watery eyes. But, if you’re like me, and have been reading King for 30 years now (and I’m only now 40!) and love the way he tells a story and how his worlds all get intermingled, this will right up your alley. I say this not to disrespect or lesson Chizmar here. In truth, this book most likely wouldn’t exist if Richard hadn’t pushed to continue Gwendy’s story in book two and the two author work and write seamlessly together. Everything you need is there. Owners left extras in fridge. Well worth the money we paid. Thanks to the owners.The Button Box is a journey around the world in song! The music is very varied and colourful and the show is well suited to a large cast, making it an excellent whole school or end of year production. This was such an emotional read for me and to be honest, that’s pretty rare for me. That’s why it felt like a powerhouse of a read because it tugs on your heart while keeping you on your toes as to what will go down with this final task for Gwendy. She’s my favorite character in this entire trilogy because she’s so relatable it makes you want to root for her in everything she does. I connected with her character so much since she always does what’s right and well, that’s something I try to do as well in life. All the children (including the yr 6 boys and sports stars!) were motivated to take part - Hooray! I would strongly recommend this to other schools. It presents such variety and everyone who took part in the show appeared on stage at some point. Absolutely Fantastic!
