About this deal

I’m confident that even the true novice will be using the Minelab Vanquish 440 effectively in no time. Minelab engineers have thought this through in detail and gave us a product that will put smiles on many faces. And for afters, let’s dissect Vanquish 540, the most sophisticated model of the three in this series. While I am a huge fan of the Minelab Equinox series, they are so much more expensive than the Vanquish series or the Simplex+. For this reason, I would typically recommend the other metal detectors. Don’t get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Equinox 600 or 800, and if they fit well within your budget, so be it! analasing the similarities and differences between them to get a clearer picture of what's really down there.

The 440 features Multi-IQ technology (more on this in the next section), a waterproof V10 search coil, audio control, and pinpoint mode. This simple to use, lightweight, compact metal detector works well in all terrains and for all metals. This is an all-purpose machine with great features, a compact design, and simple functionality at a fantastic price. While designed with beginner metal detectorists in mind, the Vanquish 440 has enough features to make even an intermediate detectorist happy. More than that, the real intelligence of the system is that the Multi-IQ processing will collate and compare the signals from all operating frequencies, This gives you better target ID and discrimination at greater depth, and the versatility to perform in a wider range of ground types, handling mineralisation, wet sand, etc.

Minelab Vanquish 540 Key Features

Minelab promises the Vanquish 440 will work well on all metals in all soils all the time. Custom Find Mode allows you to save your favorite settings. Many very low frequency (VLF) metal detectors struggle in mineralized soils, wet sand, and saltwater terrains. This model does better than most in these areas because of the Multi-IQ technology. The Vanquish 440 has 12 discrimination segments to control which metals to accept or reject and allow for a customized search. The Vanquish 540 weighs a few ounces more than the 440, at 2.9 pounds. This model has Bluetooth compatibility so it can be used with wireless headphones or wired headphones. The 540 comes with rechargeable AA batteries and is the only model of Vanquish with rechargeable batteries. Waterproof, lightweight, and pretty functional, we would say this model of the series is very nice for beginner detectorists (mainly because it has pinpoint included!) Vanquish 540

However, if you set Iron BIAS to Low, the metal detector will perform better when detection coins among iron rubbish. This function does provide clearer signals from coins, but during the testing process, the metal detector functioned in All Metal mode. We didn’t perform testing at various discrimination modes; thus, I’d recommend using this function with care in this case. Models Minelab Vanquish 340 The armrest is classic, the shaft has clamps which is a rather convenient solution (here, I’m taking a potshot at Garrett Ace, just in case). Yet, the wire of the coil is still on the outer side, while I would really preferred to have it inside – this is way more convenient, and we could have taken a potshot at several other brands). Separation: Conducted on dry land, each of the various targets shown/ below were positioned between two rusted, dime size iron washers. Both washers were then moved equally and incrementally toward that target. The test continued until the closest point at which the target could be clearly detected and not masked by the junk was determined.Frequencies - Three: Low, Medium, high, Simultaneously, Noise Cancel, Auto (19 Channels) Iron Bias, High Most entry level machines operate at a frequency under 14 kHz, while the Vanquish line can operate up to 40 kHz. This means the Vanquish series of metal detectors will be better at finding all treasure types, including gold, than other entry level machines. Minelab Vanquish 440 vs Vanquish 340 The VANQUISH detector screen will show "UP" turning the update; the first discrimination segment will blink rapidly while the update is in progress.

The real intelligence of the system is that the Multi-IQ processing will collate and compare the signals from alloperating frequencies, analyzingthe similarities and differences between them to get a clearer picture of what's really down there. This gives you better target ID and discrimination at greater depth, and the versatility to perform in a wider range of ground types, handling mineralisation, wet sand, etc. That means you can find and identify targets that a single frequency will struggle with. Ten setting levels ensure decreasing iron volume to its minimum and leave non-ferrous targets sound clearer and louder. You can activate and adjust this function by holding the All metal, Volume, and +/- buttons.Water resistant vs waterproof. The Vanquish 440 control box is weather/water resistant but the coil is waterproof. To my way of thinking, all detectors should be fully waterproof if not weatherproof. Why? Ours is an outdoor hobby and even if you’re not a water hunter, a heavy rain could do a detector in if it isn’t waterproof, but that’s just the view from my foxhole. The Vanquish does come with a nice control box cover so Minelab has taken the possible pop-up shower into consideration. Except that, some general improvements of all VANQUISH models were implemented. The update also includes improved ways of using batteries for all models as well as new reporting when the battery is low. The review One huge advantage for the Minelab Vanquish series over the competition is the ability to run on multiple frequencies simultaneously. None of the other entry level metal detectors (besides the Minelab Equinox line) feature this technology. No other entry level metal detector offers operating frequencies as high as the Vanquish series, either. The very first thing to understand about Vanquish detectors is that this series was created for beginner level hunters. Yeah, the machines are equipped with multi-frequency technology, because Minelab made them cool, but they are still targeted at newbies. Discrimination is not recommended when gold prospecting with a metal detector, because gold can often read on the lower end of numerical target ID, like iron. If you know you will be metal detecting in a trashy location, or a location with a lot of iron targets you are not interested in, you can use your discrimination feature to notch the unwanted metals out, while keeping the desired metals notched in.
