On my first night on the Static V2, I felt that I slept much more comfortable thanks to the body mapping. The V-shape cradles your body, so you don’t slip off your pad or twist your sleeping bag around in the middle of the night. Instead of getting right into what makes them different, let us first cover what features they both have. This way, you will always have an idea of what they are about in case you do not know. A 3/4 length version of the original is perfect for ounce counters and shorter campers. Sometimes, a full length pad simply isn’t necessary to get the job done. The Static V Junior™ is virtually identical to the original Static V™ - including V-Chambers and dynamic side rails for greater comfort - but it measures almost two feet shorter for those who don’t need the extra length. This pad is especially popular among ultralite campers and Scouts. For the typical camper who doesn’t need to worry about every ounce of weight, the Static v2 offers more comfort than many of its competitors. While there are sleeping pads that are warmer or lighter or more durable, the Klymit Static v2 hits a sweet spot between all of these considerations and is less expensive than most pads currently on the market. For anyone new to camping or for individuals who don’t want to spend a large sum of money on equipment, the Static v2 is ideal.

This makes it overall more weight-effective, without compromising comfort and it’s a seriously comfortable, seriously lightweight sleeping pad – as an all rounder, the Xtherm is hard to beat, but it ain’t cheap and there are some better value options out there. One of the decisions outdoor enthusiasts have to face when choosing a sleeping pad is how much weight they are willing to carry. The lighter your gear, the easier it is to freely hike and explore. However, that can mean tossing out a comfortable, yet bulky sleeping pad for something that will be lighter, yet will be thinner and less cushioned. Not so with the Static v2. Sea to Summit has yet again graced our list. This time with the Comfort Plus SI sleeping pad. This is the pad to go with if the priority is 3-season comfort above all else. Delivering a cushy 2.5 inches of padding, this self-inflating sleeping pad is also built from 30-denier stretch-knit top fabric, which is going to deliver a slightly more durable performance over lightweight pads.
Most of the specifications on the two sleeping pads are identical. The only difference is the weight which is a result of the material choices Klymit made. The Klymit Static V is made entirely of 75D polyester but the V2 is made with 30D polyester on the top and 75D polyester on the bottom. The Static V2 was upgraded to be lighter and more compact, but sacrifices the warmth rating to achieve it. They did manage to shave off 8.4 ounces and bring the weight down to a more impressive 16.6 ounces. Since the R Value of the Comfort Plus SI is around 4, mild winter adventures are now a possibility. That said, keep your expectations realistic. This is not an extreme cold weather sleeping pad. While as the Static V2 has made a lot of improvements to the Static V, it’s totally worthy to get it with these upgrades. It is a prime choice for those wanting something lightweight, durable, and comfortable, but affordable. It’s one of the lightest none-inflatable mats around but it doesn’t fold up quite as small as I would like, that’s probably the main disadvantage of this sleeping pad.

The side rails on these mattresses are made to cradle you into the middle of the air mattress. So when you move around, you will not be moving outside of the parameters of the air mattress. This also makes it more comfortable to sleep on. Easily inflatable. In summary, while the Static V2 is slightly lighter than its V1 predecessor, their many similarities cannot be ignored. Simply, tug the convenient twist-pull mechanism on the side of the pad and watch the mat deflate in a matter of seconds. The Klymit Static v2 comes from a diverse line of sleeping pads that meet the needs of various outdoor niches. The Klymit Static V was the original model upon which the Static v2 was based, and it offers slightly more durability but weighs a few ounces more. Klymit also sells an insulated version of this design called the Insulated Static V, which is a four-season sleeping pad with an R-value of 4.4. While the Static V is equipped with 75D polyester material on both sides of the sleeping pad, the Static V2 has 75D polyester material on only the underside of the mat, while the top is covered with 30D polyester.
Klymit has made the Static V one of the warmest pads in its price range. We don’t know exactly how they did it, just that we love that they did. The other disappointment with the Klymit Static V and V2 is that it only comes in one size option which is 72" long. As someone who is 73" tall, this is a deal breaker! Most other companies offer their sleeping pads in multiple sizes, usually ranging from 72" up to 78" which will work for most people.Insulation is important even in summer because you lose body heat to the ground.With an R-Value of only 1.3, the Static V2 is not recommended for cold temperatures. If you’re looking for something warmer, have a look at the ThermaRest NeoAir XLite NXT.
Our team rated this as one of their best budget sleeping pads because it still provided excellent warmth and protection from the hard ground at a fraction of the price. Ok, so it’s not the most comfortable on the list but for a foam pad, it’s up there with the best. On the plus side, this thing is never going to get puncture or deflate! They also found that they could fold the pad over double in some sections to add a bit of extra padding.
