About this deal

It matters because Anna does a lot of volunteering locally,’ Dad explained. ‘She’s in charge of delivering groceries, library books and prescriptions to people who live out of town and she does a fair bit of ferrying to appointments and things too.’ Tess is renting a cottage from the owner of the pub Sam and is instantly attracted to him but shelves the idea because it looks like he has a girlfriend Tess needs a break from life she works in the family business and she’s recently lost her mum and her father is so demanding so wants to get away. She use to love going to wynmouth a little seaside town she decides to flee there as a cottage she loves is free. She takes what she thinks is her mother’s diary’s to read to.

I had worked for the charity since graduation almost a decade ago, and there was only so long anyone could cope with working in refugee camps across the world. I had overstretched myself by at least eighteen months. My managers had already expressed concern that I was bowling towards burnout but I had doggedly ploughed on, determined to complete my contract before bowing out for a long overdue break. If you haven’t read any of the stories in this setting you will still enjoy The Summer Fair. I highly recommend you do though as you will get added depth from the actions of the characters on the periphery.I didn’t like the way that Tess jumped to so many conclusions in the story and ended up being made to look stupid... Another community we get to know well are the residents at the care home where Beth works. Oh, there are some fabulous characters, all adding their charm and wit to this story. I loved seeing how Harold was getting on! I so enjoy visiting this wonderful community and it was fantastic to meet some new fabulous characters too! I love the musical theme that is woven into this book. It really adds to the depth and feel of the story.

Eli is the perfect leading man and he is so sooooo lovely (I picture Tom Holland when I read about him 😍) and I fell in love with him instantly.

I’m a huge fan of this author and her wonderfully escapist books which are just what I need at the moment. Beth has been through so much and has pushed her passion for music aside, but once she meets the lovely people of Nightingale Square, it becomes quite apparent that her past and present are going to collide. I felt stunned a few times - in a good way... Just when you think you have worked something out, along comes Heidi who pulls the rug out from under you!

I did feel for Tess at times, especially at the beginning when it was clear that she was overworked and felt very undervalued. I couldn’t blame her for running off to the one place that was filled with so many happy memories. The way Tess instantly started to gel with the locals and help the surrounding businesses was so heart warming to see and showed just how well she fitted in. Of all the secondary characters I think Sophie was my favourite. Not only did her home cooking have me salivating but her sunshine persona was a welcomed addition and her sound advice to Tess was the cherry on the top. Yes,’ I told her, swallowing away the lump in my throat. ‘Just. I’m now about to leave the airport.’Along the way, Tess has matters of the heart and head of her own to contend with too. I was rooting for her, such a likeable character. I thought I had it all sussed out but there was a twist or 2 at the end I did not see coming! What’s he done now?’ I couldn’t resist asking while simultaneously feeling a pang of sympathy for my godmother, Catherine. ‘Surely there’s enough people around and about at the hall to keep him on the straight and narrow?’ She books herself into a little cottage in the seaside town of Wynmouth and runs away the next day.

At the beginning, I wasn't a massive fan of Tess believe it or not. She seemed quite self-centered and even though I knew she had been through a hard time she didn't seem quite like who I usually liked to read about as she was a workaholic and came across as quite a know-it-all when she was giving Chris a telling off! However, having said that, it appeared that as soon as she arrived in Wynmouth everything changed. She became nicer, more down-to-earth and understanding. She seemed more like a lovely person, exactly the type who I do enjoy reading about. No one at the moment,’ Dad explained. ‘And you know what a big deal Christmas at Wynthorpe is now, so there’s all of that to contend with too.’
