Following application of any Frontline product, it’s important to note that because fipronil causes neurologic overexcitement in the flea prior to killing it, more fleas may become visible and active following application of the product. This depends on the types of active ingredients used and their concentration. Some flea sprays contain insecticides that kill all or some life stages of fleas. Others contain Insect Growth Regulators (IGRs) that interrupt the flea life cycle by preventing larvae and eggs from maturing into adult fleas. Other flea sprays contain plant-based ingredients, like essential oils, that kill some or all life stages of fleas. Lastly, some plant-based flea sprays contain essential oils that are designed to repel but not kill fleas. These basically cover your cat’s coat in a smell that is unpleasant for fleas, so they’re less likely to stay on your cat’s coat to lay their eggs and bite your cat. Ingredients: Natural or chemical? If you are fighting a flea infestation in the home, a Frontline spot-on product can break the flea life cycle. Frontline Spray contains only fipronil, which means that it doesn’t provide as much prevention coverage as the newer spot-on product innovations Frontline Plus and Frontline GOLD.

Important: Do not use Frontline flea spray on rabbits as this could cause severe side effects or even death. Traditional chemical flea sprays are usually safe and extremely effective. Some of them can cause localized skin irritation if they’re used too frequently. Natural flea sprays contain plant-based ingredients, including cedarwood oil, lemongrass, and citronella. These may not be as effective at killing fleas as sprays containing insecticides or IGRs, but the choice comes down to your personal preference and which ingredients you’re happy to use. Can I use flea spray on home surfaces? For external use only. May cause severe eye irritation. Take care not to spray in the animal’s eyes or facial area. Do not use on kittens and puppies under 8 weeks. Individual sensitivities, while rare, may occur after using any pesticide product for pets. If signs persist, or become more severe, consult a veterinarian immediately. Certain medications can interact with pesticides. Consult a veterinarian before using this product on medicated, debilitated, aged, pregnant or nursing animals.This also presents a challenge for multiple cat households where lots of co-grooming occurs. Compared to the spot-on, it would be even more important to separate housemate kitties for up to 24 hours after application to allow the product to fully dry. It’s important to note here that the spray cannot be used in a single application spot at the base of the head the way the spot-on products can be used. Spot-on products have a carrier agent that allow the drug to spread throughout the oils of the coat over about 18 to 24 hours. The spray must be used more liberally across the entire coat and body to be effective.

Frontline Spray solution comes as either a pump action spray bottle or a trigger spray bottle (dependent on the bottle size). How does Frontline Flea Spray work? As a flea control product, fipronil can only kill the adults. Since it doesn’t contain an insect growth regulator like (S)-methoprene or pyriproxyfen like Frontline Plus or Frontline GOLD, Frontline Spray doesn’t have the ability to target flea eggs or larvae. Always use medications as directed. The spray should be used at a distance of approximately 10-20cm to spray the entire of your pet but take special care to avoid their eyes. All of the fur or hair should be dampened by the solution and ruffling the animal afterwards is recommended to ensure the solution works its way down to the skin. Some flea sprays are also suitable for use on home surfaces, but you should always read the label of your preferred product to make sure this is the case. Can I use other flea treatments at the same time as flea spray?Dogs and Cats: Depending on the length of the hair, apply 3 to 6 ml per kg of body weight. This translates to 2 to 4 pump applications for the 250 ml and 500 ml bottles.

Frontline Tri-Act Spot-On usually dries within 2-4 hours. The active ingredients in Frontline Tri-Act Spot-On, fipronil and permethrin, are both fast-acting and the product dries within 2-4 hours of application. However, it is still important to avoid bathing your pet for at least 48 hours after application. It is a violation of Federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling. TO PREVENT HARM TO YOU AND YOUR PET, READ ENTIRE LABEL AND ATTACHED DIRECTIONS BEFORE EACH USE. Follow all directions and precautionary statements carefully. Use only on dogs and cats. Do not use on rabbits. Do not use on any other animals. Lastly, topical products like Frontline have been known to cause skin and eye irritation in people. It is best to wear disposable gloves when applying the spray and to wash your hands after. Have the product container or label with you when calling a poison control center or doctor, or going for treatment. The first is that the Frontline Spray does not directly treat all life stages of the flea (eggs and larvae) as it does not contain an insect growth regulator ingredient. This means that after spraying a cat with an active flea infestation, more fleas are likely to appear a couple weeks later. This will take longer for an active infestation of the home to get under control and extra diligence should be taken toward treating the home environment.The second disadvantage is in the application process. Keeping a kitty still for a single spot-on application is feasible in most cases, though some kitty parents even have trouble with this. Generally, applying a spray liberally to a cat’s body and needing to work it into the fur coat is intensive and many grown cats may not sit still well for it. Application is also generally messier, requiring gloves and possibly keeping a kitty that has had the spray recently applied in a confined area like a bathroom for at least 24 hours until the spray fully dries to prevent it from ending up on upholstery and furniture. Frontline Flea Spray dries within 5-10 minutes. It is a fast-drying product that can be applied to wet or dry fur. CONTAINER DISPOSAL. If empty: Nonrefillable container. Do not reuse or refill this container. Place in trash or offer for recycling if available. This does mean that eggs and larvae may still develop into adult fleas, so it may be possible to see new adults emerge after a couple of weeks of initially killing the original adult flea infestation.

When you receive the medication, it’s important to read and understand the dosage instructions. The strength and dose of the medication may depend on the size of your cat or dog.
