Still, somehow I want Liam with Ruby and The Darkling with Alina (I will go down with that ship) and I don't really know what's the difference behind my choice. Must be the darkling-esque allure. Or maybe the fact that The Darkling, badass psycho and broken precious baby as he was, never treated Alina superiorly.

The Future of the Darkest Minds Saga

While popular with fans, The Darkest Minds (2018) did poorly with critics. The movie is often critiqued for being a typical teen dystopian film with little originality. In Never Fade, Ruby is an active member of the Children's League. In the beginning we find her on a mission to recover a valuable League agent, despite the fact that there is a rule that if you get caught you're on your own. No one is coming to help you. Jude. I mentioned him already. If you haven't read the Darkest Minds, I'm telling you to leave right now because SPOILERS. Anyhoo, Jude is part of Ruby's team in the Children's League, who she views as naive and in need of protection. Jude's fourteen, even though he could pass for twelve, and is a trained yellow. He's open, willing to trust, and while to Ruby these seem like things that could get him killed, he has a flare for seeing the reasons why people do what they do. He also affectionately calls Ruby 'Roo', which I find adorable.

It is revealed that Clancy is using his powers to control the government, and wants to use his new memory-erasing powers to turn Ruby to his side and forget her friends, but she manages to escape with the others. Liam flees with all of the haven children, while Ruby faces off against Clancy, destroying the camp and making her escape with Chubs. Chubs is severely injured, leaving Ruby no choice but to use her panic button to call the League for help. I did not think Ruby would erase Liam's memory and then with a simple kiss he would remember everything. Never Fade has a ton of twists and turns, most of them are entirely unexpected, so be prepared with tissues and don't read it while eating anything you could choke on. I am really hyped for the third book and I can't wait to find out what goes wrong next, who dies, who survives and how the political situation changes. This series developed to be one of my favorites and I'm so really glad I've discovered it!

Why didn’t the movie work?

Ruby never asked for the abilities that almost cost her her life. Now she must call upon them on a daily basis, leading dangerous missions to bring down a corrupt government and breaking into the minds of her enemies. Other kids in the Children’s League call Ruby “Leader”, but she knows what she really is: a monster. With dystopian movies such as Maze Runner: The Death Curse and Ready Player One produced and released in the same year as The Darkest Minds (2018), it’s no wonder that critics grew tired of the genre. The Darkest Minds 2: Will there be a sequel? When Ruby is entrusted with an explosive secret, she must embark on her most dangerous mission yet: leaving the Children’s League behind. Crucial information about the disease that killed most of America’s children―and turned Ruby and the others who lived into feared and hated outcasts―has survived every attempt to destroy it. But the truth is saved in only one place: a flash drive in the hands of Liam Stewart, the boy Ruby once believed was her future―and who now wouldn’t recognize her. All in all, the romance did go where I wanted it to go. However, the journey to get there wasn't everything I could have hoped. But that is partially because I basically just wanted a book that was AAALLLLL Liam and Ruby all the time. But they have to fight to be together in this one a little bit. While there wasn't much romance in this book until closer to the end, I loved every bit that I got.

We could also anticipate reunions with former allies, confrontations with new threats, and further exploration of the character’s abilities. Never Fade was a brutal book. Not like the Gone or Maze Runner series where it honestly was not for people with delicate constitutions, but it was pretty harsh compared to the Darkest Minds. I'm talking about getting ready for gunshots and stab wounds and a whole-freaking-butt-load of some brain-blowing mind control. We already saw Ruby evolve tremendously as a character in the Darkest Minds, but if it's possible, she changed even more. Runaways, finding kids that were thought dead that are still alive, search and rescue kids, try not to die while being shot at or bombed. And then we always run into jerk kids that want to run things and be over other sweet kids and gah!!!!!!!Principal photography on the film began in April 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia.
