About this deal

I was born in Brasilia, Brazil where I spent my childhood and teenage years. After graduating from high school, I moved to the USA where I studied psychology with specialization in criminal behaviour. During my University years I held a variety of odd jobs, ranging from flipping burgers to being part of an all male exotic dancing group. Before I wanted to study animal care I liked the idea of being a Homicide detective or CSI, now I’m glad I’m not because I have nothing but respect for the men and women that have that profession. No therapist in the world could help with the horrors they must see and they have more courage and guts than most. Lo retorcido de la mente del criminal, del amor, todos los artilugios que salen en esta novela... Todo eso ha sido bastante macabro (me ha encantado).

These are some of the most gruesome crime scenes I have read. Hunter and Garcia cannot believe what they are seeing and they have seen a lot of them. Some of them turned my stomach. This is one sadistic killer. The pieces of the puzzle are slowly revealed and it all comes to a chilling and surprising conclusion. It was also released by the Simon and Schuster publishers in the year 2010. The main plot of this book features the lead characters in the form of Robert Hunter, Claire Anderson, Ian Hopkins, Barbara Blake, Carlos Garcia, Jonathan Winston, and Mike Brindle, etc. Even though it was a good story I felt like something was missing in this one. Happy though to follow another investigation with Robert Hunter and Carlos Garcia but something from their previous banter that made me smile in the first books is missing and they are focusing in more serious issues while discussing over a good scotch. Their professional and personal relationship in developing along with every new story and even though they are different at some aspects they are similar as well and have good chemistry while working. A wonderful detective duo. I also liked the addition of Alice in The death sculptor but I guess it will be short lived since our main character is a loner at least for now...? This book introduced a secondary female character, Alice Beaumont, that matches Robert's genius mind. At first, I think that she will be quite interesting as love interest for Robert. But as the story goes, I don't like that Alice seems to take the spotlight from Garcia, Robert's partner. I like Robert and Garcia's camaraderie and friendship ... and I feel like it is a bit missing. I even miss Anna, Garcia's wife. By far the best policing series going and coming from law enforcement I think my opinion is pretty valid.

Table of Contents

This book will not be for everyone, I totally appreciate that. There are some strong themes of suicide and mental health throughout the story and I think that the author did a wonderful job with it. The dedication at the start is beautiful and made me cry even before I started to read it, The end of the book has details of helplines for those who are struggling. As someone who has needed these resources in the past.. thank you Chris. Such and important message. It´s one of the deeper, more meaningful, and social criticizing parts of the series, not just a maniac without a real agenda besides destroy, rape, eat, and kill, but someone who has really good reasons for revenge. This whole >> society, social media, the youth, whatever is evil and finds gore and torture entertaining << is another, far more complex thing. Depending on who is asked one could get dozens of different theories, thesis, discussions, duels, and battles until death, and explanations out of the shallow waters of many humanities, not even including new weirdo cyber pop psychology. I liked how the investigation was carried out - investigation is after all a painstaking process of analyzing facts, interviewing or interrogating people, lying in wait -- mostly using your brains and testing your patience. The author did try in this respect. The obligatory and somewhat preedictable attempt at misdirection was also there. The real killer appears to be still out there in open, ready to attempt one more vicious and violent murder spree. He seems to be selecting his victims at random and every time he commits a brutal murder, he taunts Robert Hunter for not still not being able to catch him.

Some other of his novels have a similar idea of a killer that was made a monster, has a really good reason to overreact to certain triggers, and isn´t what one would call a real, true lunatic monster just for the reasons of the fun of it. To a certain extent, for sure, but one could go for it, understand it, and maybe do it too if an unnecessary tragedy takes away everything that has made life precious. Someone getting away with killing ones´ child, parents, or partner, in an accident, with a ridiculous amount of prison time, or even without any, could make many normal people DIY abduction and torture to death experts. I also liked the character of Whitney Myers and the factors that led her to become what she later became. I don't want to include any spoilers in case you ever give it a try.My misinformed state was fixed when my Kindle decided to have a temper tantrum. Sadly, my Kindle is known to misbehave. Fortunately, through trying to get my Kindle working again I stumbled upon The Hunter sitting buried in my Kindle library. Joy ensued. A lot of joy, in fact. The excitement I had felt in the past whenever I thought about this short story was doubled when I realised I owned it. Aware of how often I find myself buried under advance reads, I jumped straight into The Hunter.

Now whilst each of these books can be read as a standalone novel, there is a story underneath it all. With this one, I found myself wanting to see more for Hunter on the relationship front. He’s a wonderful character and I believe I’ve reached the point where I want to see him happy, and certain events in this book left me hoping that there will be happiness for him in the future. Hunter's partner Garcia has got some good moments during the story and even made me smile with some remarks he made. Captain Blake made a few appearances but wasn't much involved in the case and the same can be said for Dr. Hove. Su visišku nekantrumu laukiu sekančios autoriaus knygos, nes panašu, kad Roberto Hanterio laukia nauja medžioklė 🖤Do you believe the Devil exists, Detective?’ the officer at the end of the line asks. ‘Because if you don’t . . . I’m sure you will once you get here.’ Soon, another body is found. The methods and signature of the murder differs, but the level of violence used suggests that the same person is behind both crimes. Hunter’s fears are confirmed when a second part of the poem is found.

And the motivation between the murders sadden me as well. Because again, it taps the question about society and how they're easily giving out vicious comments on Internet on things that they don't completely know or understand. Simply because it's entertaining. The Internet trolls. The people who are willing to videotape a crime and upload it, comment on it, like/dislike it on Internet. After reading until the 8th installment I know by now how many victims there are gonna be, how Hunter will solve the case and that he will go and face the killer on his own. I would like a surprise like a victim gets away and spoils the killer's plans, Hunter's partner is the one that solves the case or is the one facing the killer in the end or anything that will be different. If you have not met Detective Robert Hunter before, now is the time, he is a genius Detective, super brainy and has the special skill of seeing the psychological element in any murder, profiling and second guessing the killer. All of the books featuring him are fantastic, I have read a few now. He works with his partner Andy Garcia and both are very likeable and tangible characters. Robert Hunter is a loner, I feel sad for him at times, but on the job he is outstanding and really likeable. Somewhat flawed yes, but outstanding.
