With Halloween around the corner, I decided to create a spooky design that you can use at home as a warm afghan or adjust and turn into a Halloween costume. As the name suggests, the best hooded blankets sit somewhere between a giant wearable hoodie and a cosy throw.

On the recommendation of my colleague Hannah, who has often raved about how warm Oodies are, I caved and decided I needed to see if it lived up to the hype. They may also help to save you money on your heating bill this winter too, as heating the body is always a cheaper option than heating the home; ideal if you work from home or spend long periods of time bingeing Netflix on the sofa.

For us, though, Oodie just takes the top spot for keeping the body at the perfect temperature and for its vast range of designs and viral fame. Are hooded blankets worth it? Of course, you can also always add one to your Christmas wishlist and let someone else treat you to a cosy winter. I was given an Oodie by my sister for my birthday in 2020 and to be brutally honest, my first reaction was to laugh. “There’s no way I’ll wear this,” I mused to myself while politely thanking her for the gift. But fast forward three years and the honest truth is, I couldn’t live without it. That’s because during the colder months it’s easily saved me thousands in heating bills because instead of turning my heater on, I’ve been able to pop my Oodie on instead.
