Bernadette Banner is a filmmaker and dress historian, best known for her YouTube channel documenting the exploration, reconstruction and interpretation of historical dress. Same goes for BB's expert knowledge. Compared to a random person on the street with zero sewing/history knowledge she's an expert, that's what they call her. The same thing is happening to Rachel when people get irritated that she calls herself a beginner when she has plenty sewing projects under her belt. But in reality she is (no shade on Rachel, love her regardless). Banner studied in the Design and Production Studio at Tisch School of the Arts. After that, she did an internship for Tony Award-winning costume designer Jenny Tiramani at the School of Historical Dress in London. At best, it's hypocrisy. At worst, it's her intentionally joking about a genocide and the victims, misrepresenting an oppressed people, etc so she could joke about the funny hat. Oh, and she's making money off it.I have very mixed feelings about her. On the one hand, there's no denying her talent. I've watched her videos on corset making several times, and I love that one about adapting an 18th century dress into a modern summer dress. And she does really seem to do her research, unlike some other historical costume bloggers (looking at you, Angela Clayton). Remember a couple weeks ago when I said I was worried she might unintentionally cause offence with Coven of Sisters? Well scratch that, because it's way worse than I thought it was going to be - and it was intentional.
