Be aware, that this measurement is not entirely standardised for double mattresses. The size of a double mattress may vary ever so slightly between manufacturers. No matter how much you like the idea of stretching out on a huge new emperor mattress, you need to consider how the bed will look in your bedroom. A huge bed in a small bedroom can look out of place, as can a small bed in a huge room.

Italy, on the other hand, refers to double beds as square beds. They classify their bed sizes by using the term “Piazza” (one place). A single mattress is one place, whereas a double mattress is one and a half places. The standard size for a double mattress in Italy is 120 cm x 190 cm or 120 cm x 200 cm.

A Euro super king bed is 180cm wide and 200cm long (6ft wide and 6ft 6ins long). This makes them the same size as UK super kings which provide the largest sleep space available of all beds. Meanwhile, the most common double bed size for countries in Northern Europe such as Poland, Germany, Netherlands and Sweden is 180 cm x 200 cm. There may be some slight variations between Northern European countries, however, this is the most standard measurement. This size tends to look well proportioned in most bedrooms, and it’s the mattress size we use in our tests. While we don’t sell EU king size beds and mattresses, we do sell a close equivalent.
