Rising air temperatures in the container drive water vapour out of the hygroscopic cargo. At constant absolute humidity, a rise in air temperature in the container results in a drop in relative humidity. However, since the cargo endeavours to establish the equilibrium moisture content, it releases water vapour into the container air. This water vapour may then condense, for example, on the cold container walls and ceilings (due to overnight cooling). Condensation is most severe on the container ceilings, such that, despite being strongly heated by the sun, the condensation does not dry out during the day (as often occurs on container walls), so resulting in a continuous increase in the quantity condensation. As a result, the water drips from the ceiling down onto the cargo. If plants have wilted between waterings, you may need to water more often, but slowly and thoroughly so that the water reaches the root zone. Avoid disturbing the soil surface if you can, by slowing the flow. Pop a rose attachment on your watering can, a variable nozel on yourhose or simply reduce the pressure at the tap.This will allow water to infiltrate into the soil more slowly. Sources of water In our simple case we will only need to modify a couple of the parameters through the code when the forecast display is populated:

Ironing clothes: It should be no surprise that when using the steam setting, a clothes-iron vents water vapor into the air of your space. Closed-cell insulation: Closed Cell Spray Polyurethane Foam (ccSPF) is what we recommend for almost all situations, and it is especially good for colder environments. Once open cell foam or other porous insulation materials are exposed to moisture, they are hard to dry and become a breeding ground for mold, etc. Closed cell foam serves as both insulation and a vapor retarder, keeping moisture out of your wall cavity. Unlike a plastic film vapor retarder, the ccSPF isn’t easily damaged, punctured, or cut and it retains the integrity of its protection. Additionally, the spray-in application fills up all the gaps in corrugation, around outlets, etc. to form a good seal. While it’s a more expensive option, we think it’s a worthwhile investment. We have split the method up into smaller chunks for this walk through. The first section of the refresh method sets up the selectors, extracts the forecast data and exits cleanly if a bad or missing data situation occurs. Coating and adhesive damage: Damage to paints, varnishes, and flooring/roofing adhesives are possible.

The two primary conditions in which condensation can form in insulated shipping container homes

The higher is the cargo water content, the lower is the temperature/dew point difference and the greater is the risk of condensation. Fill winter pots generously as plants grow more slowly during the colder months and you don't want any obvious gaps.

Washing dishes: If you’ve ever opened a dishwasher right after the cleaning cycle is complete and been greeted by a face full of steam, you’ve witnessed the humidity that a dishwasher can introduce to an interior space. Plants can only effectively use water through their roots, taking water from the surrounding soil or compost. So water needs to get to where it’s needed, at the tip of the roots and not the leaves.
