About this deal

Given that most of us have rectangular gardens, these rectangular sprinklers can limit water wastage too. For gardener’s who struggle with the constant battle of sprinkler vs. water pressure, Claber’s rotating Idrojet 2000is one of the most reliable and best oscillating sprinklers to use in low-pressure areas. As great as the Gardena pop-up sprinkler, Karcher oscillating sprinkler, and Orbit travelling sprinkler are, they aren’t the cheapest models on the market. As we know there are many out there who just want something inexpensive that’ll get the job done, we decided to have a best budget category, and the winner was this product from Wisdomwell. Not all sprinklers are created equal. It’s important to choose the best garden sprinkler to ensure that you get an even spray without leaks or water wastage causing problems. As you can imagine, this isn’t the cheapest sprinkler set-up, and they’re also time-consuming to install. Nevertheless, they’re a good option for regularly watering the lawn and established plants. Size of Coverage

Choose a sprinkler that has adjustable spray settings so that you do not waste water. In particular, it helps to be able to adjust the spray width so that you can avoid spraying paths, driveways and patios (as well as passers-by when watering the front garden!). Personally, I prefer to opt for metal whenever possible, and that’s why I would go with either the Orbit travelling sprinkler or the Aqua Joe oscillating sprinkler if it only came down to durability. Either that or something heavy duty like this. Types of sprinklers As you can see in my test setup I am using a standard hosepipe that extends to my automatic hose reel. I then run this to the garden sprinkler. In total I am about 30m away in terms of distance but has little impact on the range of the sprinkler so all good there. One thing you have to be aware of if you’re considering this sprinkler, is that it ships from the USA, and so there’s a waiting time for delivery and you might end up with some extra charges for importing. Personally, I think it’s worth the wait because you’ll end up with a really solidly built sprinkler, with ¾” coupling which allows for better water flow. Each setting has its own coverage range, from 32-100 sq m. In practice, we found that the rectangular pattern is actually a split jet with at least 4 metres’ range on each side, even under low pressure, and is great fun to jump through. The other three settings are better for flower beds and small gardens, with the short-range circular and square options looking indistinguishable from one another. The semi-circular option does save the day by making it useful for putting next to a veg patch or flower bed, which makes it quite versatile. As the summers are getting hotter and drier, it’s more important than ever to keep your garden watered. With sustained temperatures in excess of 30 degrees and reduced summer rainfall, it doesn’t take long for grass to dry out and yellow, and for plants and trees to wilt through thirst. For gardeners who like to play around with settings and get them just right, it’s worth nothing that this sprinkler can’t be switched off from the unit itself. How does it work? Well, the sprinkler, which resembles a tiny 3-wheeled tractor, uses its front runner to follow any 5/8 inch hose that you lay down on your lawn. So, you could get your hands on a nice, long hose and have it running right across your lawn, even if it’s really large.

When we saw that this Aqua Joe oscillating sprinkler had the word ‘indestructible’ in the title, we had to put it through its paces to see how it fared in our best heavy duty sprinkler category. It didn’t disappoint. Gardena seem to agree, and their Classic Oscillating Sprinkler has fully customisable oscillation, anywhere up to 180°. This means oscillation can be adjusted exactly depending on the demands of your watering task.Nearly all modern sprinklers are adjustable to some degree, but the better products really give you a lot of control over the angle, range, etc. of the spray. This can be very important for people with smaller gardens or irregularly shaped ones, as it’ll prevent you spraying the fence, path, house windows, and everything else in sight. In practice, we found no leakage at the base. It looks like it will outlast the five-year warranty (which is the same warranty on all Gardena products listed) and it did well with both low and high pressure. There’s also a metal base on it, which makes it feel extra sturdy as it has that bit of weight, and the manufacturer says the rest has been made to withstand frost and UV damage. Costwise have come up with a simple solution in their Oscillating Bar Lawn Sprinkler by including a base with metal construction, instead of using more-commonly-found plastic. This adds more weight to the sprinkler, making it less likely to jump around.

Overall, you want a sprinkler with a range of spray patterns that oscillates in a way that suits your space. Also, a quality hose connector is a must– there’s nothing worse than a leaking sprinkler! Manufacturers will also talk about the size of the area the sprinkler covers in square metres. This gives you a good idea of how much of your garden will get watered, but keep in mind that the spray pattern will have an impact. Remember: if your sprinkler can’t water the whole lawn or garden, you can always move it around (though you might want to turn it off first). Is there anything else worth looking out for? Offering impressive control over flow and coverage, regardless of available pressure, this rotating sprinkler can be adjusted to work in any area of the garden. If you’re nervous about watering your neighbour’s flower beds by mistake, you can even bring down the height of the spray by reducing the available pressure. A great way to keep water bills under control – you’ll only be paying to water your own garden!

Commercial, industrial, domestic and residential applications

The usual comments apply: the strength of your water pressure will affect maximum coverage. Make sure that your tap doesn’t have a pressure-limiting attachment fitted, as removing this can sometimes make all the difference. These sprinklers have a ‘sled’ design, and can be placed on the ground or strapped to raised supports to alter the spray angle. As a result, its range can extend anywhere from 7 – 17 m (water pressure permitting), and its width covers around 8 – 13 m. Silverline 868552 Impulse: The best budget sprinkler for coverage A rotating sprinkler will generally have some adjustable spray settings. You may be able to alter the rotation speed and power. However, you can’t generally change the spray patterns much.

Sprinklers that last will usually be made of similar materials, such as ABS, polyethylene, or polypropylene plastic, and rust resistant metals or ones that have been coated to protect against corrosion.Assembling the Wisdomwell sprinkler is really simple and only needs you to pop a couple of parts together and attach a hose. As mentioned, there’s no settings too speak of so it’s just ‘plug and play’ and I think some people will appreciate that.
