About this deal

I feel that this could be a five star book if it was better edited. There is too much repetition which becomes boring but it’s saving grace is the excellent world building and the good character depth. I certainly felt empathy for many of the characters such as Happizano Jinnik and Denni. The bullet then continued onwards, striking the explosives and detonating the walker in a catastrophic chain reaction that killed hundreds of surrounding Orks. Eric Bryan Moore did a wonderful job with the narration. His voice was smooth and was able to navigate well through the different characters adding depth in how he voiced them.

Two dice, a pencil and an eraser are all you need to make your journey. YOU decide which way to go, which dangers to risk and which monsters to fight. So, if you are still reading this lengthy critique (sorry!) I do think it was a good series for the world building and story, and the characters (many of whom were really likable). But you have to accept the flaws as mentioned above and kind of roll over them to enjoy it.In most stories the hero is a good person or at least someone who is trying to be good. The main character in this book, Hozark, at first seems to be a bad person. He's an assassin and one the five top assassins of some shadowy evil assassin guild that everybody knows about and is terrified of. Also he's like a vampire-assassin because he can drain the magic from his target. That's pretty evil. And he must get a sword from some master craftsman and this sword can be powered by the stolen magic. Sounds even more evil! CW/TW: death, blood, blood drinking, stabbing, assassin, violence, slavery, child abuse, child neglect, emotional abandonment, nudity, physical fight, mention of slave trading, slavery

Oh I didn't say anything good about the book. Well the book is like Assassin Creed but in space and the assassins are more like jedi knights. Also magic rules the universe instead of science. They use magic to fly through space, clean their clothes, murder people, save people, and so on and so on. Maybe the closes things I can think of is SpellJammers but without all the space monsters. There are creatures but not many. The instructions you are given in (363) will get you killed if you follow them during the floor tile puzzle at (332). I don’t want to go into huge detail and give away too many spoilers, but let’s just say it makes them even more lethal. Overall, this was a fun listening experience. Scott Baron has a fun style of writing and has built a great universe. I can’t wait to hear more from the Space Assassins series. Whilst they are assassins, they do have a code, and to a large extent, they are honourable, not just randomly killing for the sake of it.If you like Sci-Fi books and are possibly a little bit of a techy, I guarantee you will enjoy reading this one. It was hard to put down! Ozark, and his rather odd combination of party members, are off on a rescue mission to save a young boy who is a vital piece of the Council of Twenty’s plan for world dominance. If you are asking yourself, what could go wrong? Well, let me say plenty and much of it even a professional assassin could not have expected. I’m taking about the fourth book in the “Space Assassins” series call “Death from the Shadows”. This audiobook along with the series consist of a blending of both fantasy and science fiction. It is the work of Scott Baron and the audiobook edition is very well narrated by Eric Bryan Moore. The story follows a trained assassin who is ultimately on a mission of revenge which is forced to pivot to a mission of redemption rather than of death. It is a standalone series covering early details from the Dragon Mage series, by the same author. If you enjoy action, adventure, and excitement, I recommend you give this series a try. The repetition of words and phrases (“circuitous”, “myriad”, “for all intents and purposes”, “when all was said and done”) screamed aloud in an audiobook and someone just needed to take to it with a red pen for the lazy editing (eg “…for the purpose it was intended for” and “for the poor child that was something that the poor child could really use about now.” In book 1 Hozark had to complete a mission, and for that, he required a legendary Vespus Blade, and that was basically the plot of book 1, him hunting down and getting the blade and completing his mission. The magic in this world was very fascinating. It made me curious to know more and more about it, but at the same time it seemed to be more than what the story required at this point which made it a little bit confusing.
