Spin shoes are typically compatible with either the SPD Clip (2-Bolt System), or the Delta Clip (3-Bolt System). Better spin shoes can fit either clip. Either way, it’s important to know if the spin shoe you’re buying will work with the clip that’s compatible with your exercise bike. For example, Peloton bikes come with Delta-compatible pedals, so unless you want to replace the pedals on your bike, too, you’ll want to find shoes that work with Delta clips. While the Tiems are compatible with SPD clips, if you want to use them with a Peloton, you’ll need to change the pedals on your bike, which is another add-on expense. TIEM recommends customers to size down half a size of what you wear for your regular shoes. Not surprisingly, the best Peloton shoes overall are those made by Peloton itself, but these spin shoes can be used on other exercise bikes, too. These lightweight, breathable upper and mesh vent Peloton shoes feature a ratchet clip and velcro straps. If you plan on purchasing these shoes with your new bike, Peloton will deliver your shoes with your bike so you’ll have them in time for that first ride. They also have durable mesh on top and a ventilated sole, which are designed to offer superior breathability and cooling for indoor conditions. Depending on what you are looking for in an indoor cycling shoe, you might prefer one over the other. The IC2's mesh upper construction provides exceptional breathability as well as a slipper-like fit that cradles the foot for optimized comfort and stability. Providing support and structure to this soft upper design is Shimano's Cross Strap Closure System which utilizes a single strap to control the shoe's volume so riders can dial in their perfect fit. The strap travels across the toe box and then reaches over the shoe's instep, delivering rigidity and structure to help hold the foot in place while maximizing comfort. It's well established that carbon-soled shoes are stiffer and lighter than their nylon or carbon-reinforced cousins. However, when you're spinning on the trainer, weight is hardly a consideration, but comfort should be. Additional reinforcement comes with SHIMANO’s Adaptable Arch Support that works in coordination with the Cross Strap Closure System. Pulling the strap to tighten the shoe, the upper wraps around the foot and enhances the shoe’s arch support for a truly personalized fit. The Shimano IC1 and IC2 shoes are both great options for indoor cycling, but they have some differences that might suit different preferences and needs.

The vast majority of us can't flex the board-stiff carbon plate on a top-end race shoe, and shoes that are too stiff can cause undue stress on knees and ankles – especially when the bike is essentially bolted to the floor as is the case on most turbo trainers. A small degree of flex vastly improves comfort and helps alleviate overuse injuries without sacrificing much, if any, power transfer or efficiency. If you're doing a lot of e-racing you probably still want a performance-orientated shoe that still has a reasonably stiff sole to maintain efficient power transfer. If you are riding indoors, especially without a fan where it's pretty warm, a well-ventilated pair of indoor-specific shoes might make a world of difference to your on-bike comfort. Some people might prefer a lighter shoe that feels more agile and responsive, while others might prefer a heavier shoe that feels more stable and durable.
