About this deal

I have no doubt that over time recent events will be poured over and analysed by all and sundry. Some snap judgements already appearing are not very clever and many have obviously been made with little real understanding of the business. Pittards said: "If the necessary resolution at the general meeting are not passed the placing will not proceed, and the company will not be able to continue to trade. Shareholders are therefore urged to vote in favour of the resolutions."

The transaction is hoped to formally close no later than September 6. If the transaction cannot be concluded, the pair will assess available options to realise value for the company's creditors. Vivienne and Hugh are the perfect host's. The kitchen was very well equipped and bed linen and towels were of fantastic quality. There is so much to do in the area and will definitely book a return visit Pittards Farm Cottage is a lovely converted building fitted out with quality fixtures & furnishings that made for a relaxing & comfortable stay, also spotlessly clean." Pittards Oiltac enhances grip in all conditions, wet or dry, and is ideal for climbing gloves or for highly dextrous tasks. Word History

Pittards was founded nearly 200-years-ago in 1826 and is part of the history of leather manufacturing and glove-making in the Yeovil and Somerset area. On the negative side, I am unhappy with the large booking fee introduced by Skyes in the past two years, and the discontinuation of the the Friends and Family discounts which have been withdrawn since Helpful Holidays were taken over. Beautiful secluded location, and very quiet. Convenient for both Somerset and Dorset. Spotlessly clean, would definitely recommend it. Well positioned for walks directly from the cottage. Many National Trust properties within easy reach. Within the village itself is a manor house with cottage gardens famous for the national snowdrop and geranium collections, where you can buy plants to take home and enjoy afternoon tea, or head off to wonderful Montacute, Barrington Court or Tintinhull.

It had all the amenities we required, and everything was easy to access and use. The cottage had oodles of personality, and the older style of furnishings was absolutely darling. Viv was really friendly, and was there to greet us when we arrived. Though we didn't have to pester her for anything during our stay, it was nice to know that she was there should we need anything. In February, Pittards warned that pretax profit for 2022 would fall short of market expectations, as a "number of factors" hurt its performance in the latter part of the year. It took a USD1.5 million hit in the latter part of the year, stemming from post-mini-budget pound weakness hurting its UK business, amid a dollar-denominated overdraft and maturing hedges. Pittards explained: "The company has been operating at or around the ceiling of its bank facilities in recent months, principally as a result of significant adverse foreign currency movements, resulting from the weakening pound sterling. It has been managing its working capital very carefully in anticipation of agreeing new and potentially restructured bank facilities." Lloyds is one of Morningstar analysts' preferred names in their review of the European banking se... The owners did everything posssible to make our stay enjoyable: a friendly welcome, a welcome gift, clear explanation of how the facilities operated, info about the local amenities, and a discreet non-intrusive presence nearby if we needed any help. These young people were a mx of apprentices, recent graduates and regular employees a few of whom I had met before. All were keen and enjoying being in manufacturing. I also knew many of the long-service employees as many had worked far longer than 25 years and quite a few close to forty. I had left Pittards some 25 years before. Pittards was a place where employees stay, where along with the grumbles of everyday life loyalty is high. From the shop floor worker, through the secretarial staff to the directors, staff turnover is low. A tannery is nothing without its people and Pittards staff, young and old demonstrate the finest, in England and in Ethiopia. Shares in the Yeovil, Somerset-based leather and leather goods producer were down 39% to 23.00p each in London on Friday afternoon. The cottage is beautifully decorated and fitted out, in a quiet location and Vivienne and Hugh very welcoming, helpful hosts." There are many stories to be told about Pittards, and in this column I have always thought they would start with the two-hundred-year celebrations being prepared for 2026. The company is much older but that is the year of the first written record – a pay slip – and so the chosen year to celebrate. We were made very welcome by Vivian and Hugh, the accommodation exceeded our expectation, very comfortable, welcoming and tastefully decorated."
