About this deal

Pirinase is an intranasal corticosteroid (INCS) containing fluticasone propionate. This has an anti-inflammatory action and works in a similar way to natural body chemicals to control inflammation. This nasal spray for allergies helps control your body's reactions to airborne allergens in the environment, such as pollen, mould spores, pet dander or dust mites. Very little of the medicine gets into your blood and almost none gets to your baby. Even if a small amount does get to your baby, it will not harm them. Fluticasone nasal spray and drops and breastfeeding

Under normal circumstances, low plasma concentrations of fluticasone propionate are achieved after intranasal dosing, due to extensive first pass metabolism and high systemic clearance mediated by cytochrome P450 3A4 in the gut and liver. Hence, clinically significant drug interactions mediated by fluticasone propionate are unlikely. Children aged 6 and over can take cetirizine tablets and liquid that you buy from pharmacies and supermarkets. The secretion of fluticasone propionate in human breast milk has not been investigated. Subcutaneous administration of fluticasone propionate to lactating laboratory rats produced measurable plasma levels and evidence of fluticasone propionate in milk. However, following intranasal administration to primates, no drug was detected in the plasma, and it is therefore unlikely that the drug would be detectable in milk. When this medicine is used in breast feeding mothers the therapeutic benefits must be weighed against the potential hazards to mother and baby. It's fine to take cetirizine in combination with other types of medicine for hay fever, for example nasal sprays or eye drops. There is inadequate evidence of the safety of fluticasone propionate in human pregnancy. Administration of corticosteroids to pregnant animals can cause abnormalities of foetal development, including cleft palate and intra-uterine growth retardation. There may therefore be a very small risk of such effects in the human foetus. It should be noted however that the foetal changes in animals occur after relatively high systemic exposure; direct intranasal application ensures minimal systemic exposure. As with other drugs the use of this medicine during human pregnancy requires that the possible benefits of the drug be weighed against the possible hazards.Children aged 1-2 years: Give one small 2.5ml spoonful twice daily. Maximum Daily Dose: 2 small 2.5ml spoonfuls (5ml) If you notice that your baby is not feeding as well as usual, or if you have any other concerns about your baby, talk to your health visitor, midwife, pharmacist or doctor as soon as possible. Fluticasone nasal spray and drops and fertility

Saline nasal sprays are also becoming popular, too. These sprays don’t contain any chemicals at all, just sterile saline solution to “wash” pollen and other allergens out of the nasal cavity. You can use them as much as you like, unlike chemical spray.

Local infection: infections of the nasal airways should be appropriately treated but do not constitute a specific contraindication to treatment with intranasal fluticasone propionate. Women who are pregnant. If you suffer with allergies during pregnancy you should get advice from your doctor on how to treat your symptoms, because locally acting medicines like nasal sprays are usually preferred. Cetirizine can be used if necessary, but only if the benefits outweigh any risks and only if it's prescribed by your doctor. Cetirizine comes as tablets and capsules (10mg) and as a liquid medicine (labelled either 5mg/5ml or 1mg/1ml). Consult your doctor before taking these tablets if you have epilepsy, glaucoma, an enlarged prostate, an overactive thyroid, very high blood pressure, or heart, liver or lung disease.
