About this deal

This story follows two of my favourite Patterson characters, Zach and Kylie, who have to solve the murders of four seemingly separate people. There seems to be no obvious links between the victims other than that each of them is wearing a Hazmat suit. However, this case has been amplified due to another potential victim going missing and the town mayor running for re-election. Both of these reasons mean that this case has severe time constraints and consequences if they don't solve the mystery in time. NYPD Red 3 was on the USA Today Best-Selling Books list for twelve weeks and at one point was number two on the list. [4] With a branch of the police department designated to look after the rich and famous, it’s detectives Zach and Kylie who are entrusted to stop a crazed killing spree across the city. Mr. Patterson has written a fantastic book. This book is going to be extremely hard to put down once you start reading it. This novel is the fifth volume of a series I didn’t know about and I must say I was curious to discover it. Zach and Kylie, two cops, are going to be put to the test trying to solve two murders: the first one, that of a young woman, a BDSM fan, who was strangled to death, and the second one, that of a man killed during a big charity gala by a bomb. Two different stories, and yet, whose truth will not be easy to find.

Having worked with police officers as a police chaplain I found the descriptions of the characters very accurate and reasonable even though people might think Patterson has exaggerated them a bit. Overall, this is another one of the typical Patterson collaborations where there is a lot of fast-paced action where the leads spend most of their time running around following the clues and distractions left by the bad guys. This one had a lot of twists and turns, most of which you could see coming. Patterson even throughs in some minor character development to remind us of Zach is secretly in love with his partner, when Kylie gets sets up with Zach’s girlfriend’s brother. However, I have a feeling that Zach and Kylie are cursed to never connect, or if ever, it will at least be really dragged out…The action part of this story is pretty fast-paced. Within three days, The Chameleon is able to poison his victim, uses another actor to shoot her co-worker, and throws Molotov bomb with Ryan Seacrest as commentator. It keeps moving ahead without breaks. In the first chapter, a filmmaker with an addiction to rough sex games is murdered in the act. In the second chapter, a bomb blows up a wealthy architect who is giving a presentation on new housing for the indigent. Could these 2 murders be related and who wanted to kill them? That's what New York Detective Zach Jordan and his partner Kylie MacDonald must find out. Meanwhile, Erin and her abductor are hidden away, safe from the prying eyes of any authorities. Things appear to be wrapped in some form of fantasy, where Erin would run away with her abductor and raise children together. This outlandish narrative may be the one things that helps Erin stay alive, as long as she can bide her time and not refuse any of his demands. Still, it will take an act of great courage for Erin to toss off her restraints and return to the man she claims to truly love. I really like James Patterson’s novels, he writes thrillers that keep us in suspense, all with very short chapters, so you read the story in no time. So you can imagine that I was very happy to get into this new novel.

The narrative flow of this series has long been one of its strongest attributes. I find the momentum of the writing is dictated by the clipped pace on offer. Karp builds on this throughout, keeping the reader attentive as they make their way through the novel. Strong characters with some decent development help add something for series fans to enjoy, as there are some key aspects discussed in this seventh novel. The plot twists and story arcs presented keep the reader engaged and ready to learn more, stopped only by the limitations of Karp’s ability to publish future pieces. I can only hope there is more to come soon, as this is one series well worth my time! I love reading books in this series, and NYPD Red 5 did not disappoint. As always James Patterson and Marshall Karp know how to keep me engaged with their plots. I like James Patterson and Marshall Karp portrayal of their characters and how they interact with each other. NYPD Red 5 is well written and researched by James Patterson and Marshall Karp. I did not expect the conclusion of NYPD Red 5. James Patterson and Marshall Karp did an excellent job in describing the setting of NYPD Red So, to answer to my previous question. Actually, not much really… Not much at all… Except for one surprise…

The characters are well-developed; the glimpses into the lifestyles of the uber-rich are intriguing and the obsession expressed toward a celebrity is a well-defined reality. The setting is effective for the telling of the tale; the unfolding narrative takes a fair number of twists and turns before arriving at a surprising revelation that changes everything. In this, the fifth outing for the Red task force, the cases are intriguing and all the expected players are in place. The glimpses into the private lives of both detectives add depth to the story, but their usual witty repartee comes off as a bit too mean-spirited and, at times, rather cringeworthy. Also, as the main narrator, Zach seems to be "behind" Kylie all the time; like he is more pragmatic than his partner. So I miss a bit agressive attitude from the MC. I think Kylie Macdonald is my favourite character from this series because she is so matter-of-fact about things and tries not to let herself get emotionally involved in situations. However, the ending of the first book in this series, ( I WON'T SPOIL IT, BUT IF YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW) has meant that she and her husband are in a pretty dark place and therefore she has to be more secretive and go about things in what, to Zach, seems to be a suspicious way.

The NYPD Red series is a popular book series of mystery, suspense, thriller, and detective fiction books. The series is penned by author Marshall Karp, and co-authored with James Patterson. I wasn’t as surprised by the ending as I sometimes am, and I’m slightly disappointed that the ambulance guys turned out to be precisely that. I was sort of hoping that, similar to what Red have previously encountered, they would be characters already known to the reader but hiding in plain sight . But I did enjoy the build-up to the reveal, once again Team Red are good at walking the reader through the thought process rather than somehow magically coming up with the solution, and I did appreciate how relatively straightforward it was (I’ve read some books with complicated endings recently!). I'm late to the party for this series of books from James Patterson, but that doesn't mean I was disappointed in not having know about them. I just need to keep my eyes open better for future books in the series. NYPD Red 7: The Murder Sorority” starts off with two murders. First, a sniper marksman takes the life of Warren Hellman, a high profile movie producer, as he leaves the court following his being found not guilty of intentionally killing a well-respected New York detective. Across town, his brother, Curtis Hellman, is found dead on a jogging pathway along 102nd street. Someone left him with his throat slashed. There are a bunch of little sub-plots that run through the novel involving the two main detectives, Detective Jordan and Detective McDonald. It seems they have a past dating relationship and that causes some issues. BUT, they are the top two Detectives in New York and they have a very unorthodox way of solving crimes, they break the rules! Moving on… And the surprise that I alluded to in paragraph seven above is this… I actually enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. It was better than I expected. As a matter of fact, it was my favorite book in the entire series so far. For the first time, I am really looking forward to reading the next book in the series. That was a big surprise for me. This had been one of Patterson’s lesser series, but Karp somehow made it shine and seem fresh for the first time.

From the 1st chapter to the last you were drawn in to the lives of the characters. The police, the would be victims, and the psycho path and the woman that would follow him to the end of the earth. I enjoy how he twisted a love story, a simple love story (nothing sappy), and suspense, on the part of the work of the detectives & the bad guy. You knew he was going to do something else , but what? You knew the detectives would catch him but how?Green Eyes (only 2% of the real world, yet it seems like 90% of all fictional females): YES Always in the NYPD Red series, since lead detective Kylie is a green-eyed blonde. As if that weren’t enough for the two detectives, they are drawn into a robbery at a high-stakes, private poker game. Could one of the players be involved in the heist? And are Zach’s suspicions about one of the players valid? At the same time, as the body count rises, can Zach and Kylie find the answers they need to capture the murderer and put an end to the killings? NYPD Red is one of Patterson’s lesser-known mystery series co-created and co-written with Marshall Karp. It is about two detectives - Zach Jordan and Kylie MacDonald – who make up a special investigative team focused on serving and protecting the rich and elite of New York city. In typical Patterson style, Zach and Kylie were also former lovers coming out of the police academy years ago and Zach has never stopped loving her, even though Kylie has sworn off ever dating a cop again. Because they work so close together, the sexual tension adds to the aura of their working relationship and is optimistically used as a tool to keep the reader’s interest. The 'Hazmat Killer's' first few victims are known lowlifes who don't attract much attention. But when wealthy political aide Evelyn Parker-Steele is tortured and killed - and a video is posted of her confessing to the murder of her lesbian lover - the authorities, the public, and the media take notice.
