About this deal

Overall, driving was an enjoyable experience, although the driver assistance tech is essentially just adaptive cruise control. The front seats are comfortable and even those six-foot and taller will find no issue with head or leg room while driving or in the passenger seat. The rear seats though are a tough sell to passengers unless they are yoga practitioners. The DJI Mini SE is certainly worth considering if you're looking for an affordable beginner drone, though it's a shame that there don't appear to be any more 'Fly More' bundles with extra batteries for even better value. Pictures show a MINI Electric with optional equipment fitted. Due to supply restrictions, the exact configurations shown here may not be available. Please speak to your MINI retailer for further information. Underwhelming camera performance aside, the Potensic Atom SE is a very decent beginner drone. It's not massively more affordable than the DJI Mini 2 SE but offers more flying modes and some extra features, potentially making it more appealing to those who prioritise the flying experience over camera footage. Read my full Potensic Atom SE review.

In both cases, DJI offer the drone and a single controller or a Fly More bundle with extra spare propellors, a total of three batteries, a charging hub, and a bag. The Mini 2 SE also throws in a handy rubber propellor protector which adds an extra layer of safety, while it switches from zipped hard case to a more traditional camera bag with strap format.Price is a non-binding recommendation of the manufacturer (including VAT, excluding transportation costs). Prices shown may differ. Your MINI retailer will gladly give you more information on models available, options and binding price information. Limited Range and WiFi Connectivity: The DJI Mini SE utilizes a WiFi connection for communication between the drone and the remote controller, which can result in a more limited range compared to other DJI drones that use more advanced radio frequency technologies. The WiFi connection is susceptible to interference, especially in urban areas or areas with a high density of wireless signals, which may lead to potential signal drops or video transmission issues.

The actual video quality of the preview ‘live view’ video is better too – twice the bitrate will mean less pixelation as well as the advantage of a more robust stream. That’s not to say that the Mini SE was bad either, and here we refer only to the quality you see as you fly – higher quality video is recorded to the card. In addition, the Mini Cooper SE handles AC (level 2) charging at up to 7.4KW (11KW in the UK and Australia), which boosts the charge level by up to 20% per hour. Here in the US, the Mini Cooper SE comes with a 120V 16A level 1 charging adapter. Mini Cooper SE specs and tech Stable and Smooth Flight Performance: Despite its smaller size, the DJI Mini SE boasts impressive flight stability, even in moderate wind conditions. The drone's GPS capabilities and altitude hold feature contribute to smooth and steady aerial shots, making it suitable for capturing high-quality images and videos. The various Walmart leaks had suggested that the DJI Mini SE would be much closer to the 2019 DJI Mavic Mini in terms of specs and ability, and almost identical bar a few exterior design tweaks.

It’s not short of rivals either – among them the Fiat 500, Honda e, Peugeot e-208, Renault Zoe, Ora Funky Cat and Vauxhall Corsa Electric, to name but a few – so it’ll need to rely on more than just its looks to tempt buyers.

Modern Minis are full of personality and charisma, with quirky yet delightful retro design touches inside and out, and the Mini Cooper SE is no exception. It's basically identical to the gasoline-powered 3-door Cooper S, with a few tweaks. Our current advice for beginners, then, is that the DJI Mini 2 is the best drone you can buy and is unlikely, according to the latest rumors, to be succeeded imminently. But for sheer value, the DJI Mini SE is certainly an interesting new option that's worth considering if you don't mind its slightly dated video skills and flying experience. The bottom line, it is a great starter drone with GPS. It is Stable, Goes where you want it, and is a great resource for photographers and videographers. Could probably do more but I don't want to test the distance and height limits. I had it up about 35 to 40 meters and it got these great sunset shots. BUY IT!

THE MOST REFINED, SOPHISTICATED MINI EVER MADE.

We already looked at the gimbal, and this is a good point to reiterate that resolution is only one measure of the quality of drone video. Video is stable and 2.7K is plenty sharp for most uses. Unlike the Mini 3, however, the camera remains horizontal, so lower resolution is exposed if cropping for vertical format. Similarly the digital zoom is more of a novelty and even at 2x will expose the limitations of a 12 megapixel sensor. Photos can be captured as single shots or in an interval mode (there are options between 2 and 60 seconds) which could be manually assembled later to create a timelapse – or might be a software solution to keep the pictures coming in case piloting becomes a distraction. Minis are naturally agile thanks to their low center of gravity, but the battery’s additional 300 pounds compared with the curb weight of a gas-powered Mini is a noticeable hindrance on handling. Mini's decision to place the battery up front in the engine compartment means the Mini SE doesn’t have a frunk. (Credit: Doug Newcomb) The same airframe has more or less the same level of speed and manoeuvrability. Not a surprise, for sure, but it is still worth noting that the wind resistance of 10.5 meters per second is a notable improvement on the first Mavic Mini, which means that both of these drones are a little more reliable in gusts. This is helped by DJI’s software literally enabling the drone to lean into the wind at up to 20˚ (or 30˚ in the faster ‘Sport’ mode). Light as a Smartphone - Weighing less than 0 55lbs / 249 grams, DJI Mini SE is roughly the same weight as the smartphone. In the United States and Canada, you can fly this camera drone without the need to register your drone with the local government..Operating Temperature Range - 0° to 40°C (32° to 104°F). Operating Frequency[2] - Model MT2SS5: 5.725-5.850 GHz, Model MT2SD25: 2.400-2.4835 GHz, 5.725-5.850 GHz Photo settings can be changed in flight. Live video preview is 720p and easy to fly with. (Image credit: Adam Juniper/Digital Camera World) Strangely, it's too small for most modern handsets. Perhaps Mini just expects you to buy an iPhone 13 mini? At least there's a pair of USB ports (one Type-A and one Type-C) in front of the center console for charging and connectivity. The punchier i3 S donates its power electronics and 135kW/181bhp electric motor, produced by BMW at its Landshut plant. These components are normally located at the rear of the i3 S, but they’re slotted under the Mini’s bonnet, cradled in a frame that even uses the existing three engine-mounting points.

Fewer Miles Than the Competition

Lastly, with a drone like the DJI MIni SE you are getting a premium product, and you can feel that. The app is amazing. The controls are well thought out. It's just fantastic. Compared to the top-of-the-line drones, the Mini SE (and the Mini 2 SE) don’t do a lot, but it does what it sets out to well. Pictures and video from the air and for many that will be enough, and are very shareable; indeed they look good for any scenario short of professional editing. Mini has announced that it will be a full EV brand by 2030. No more compliance cars, just full-on EVs built on dedicated platforms. The Mini SE is a bit of an appetizer of that electric-only future. It’s a fun-to-drive small urban vehicle that’s greater than it may seem at first glance, thanks to the disappointing range. Secondly, these DJI drones are known for their very excellent cameras. With this drone, you are not just getting a camera for which you can see what the drone sees (a necessity for flying) but rather an aerial photography device. The camera is so good you could absolutely think of this drone as a flying camera. Really, I would rate it about as good as a point-and-shoot or an iPhone 12. Another thing to note about the camera is that it is on a gimble, so your photos and videos will be crystal clear and right on point. The colour accuracy from the drone's camera is phenomenal. For owners of Apple’s iPhone, the vehicle supports wireless CarPlay. Some of the initial issues BMW and Mini had with keeping a solid wireless CarPlay connection seemed to have been resolved and we had zero issues during our week with the vehicle. Android Auto on the other hand? That’s another story since the Mini SE does not support Android Auto right now. But BMW has been working on adding support to its vehicles, so future support is expected.
