About this deal

The type of coffee filter that you use can easily be as important to the end taste of your coffee as the coffeemaker or water that is used. There are many factors that need to be considered when choosing a coffee filter. Where the supply of your goods or services is delayed or prevented for reasons beyond our control (for example, material shortages, import delays or higher than anticipated demand) we will make every effort to keep you informed but shall be under no liability to you for such delay or failure. Natural brown filters are not processed to achieve a whiter color. With premium filter paper, such as those by Melitta, there is no difference in taste from using white versus natural brown versus bamboo. The choice is only a matter of preference. To keep your coffee tasting flawless, regular cleaning and descaling is essential. Many of our filter coffee machines have descaling displays and descaling programmes. These alert you when you need to carry out a descale of the machine. By regularly descaling your filter coffee machine you can prolong its life and ensure the perfect tasting brew every time. Founded in the early 1900s after the invention of the very first documented paper coffee filter, Melitta owes its name to the clever German housewife, Melitta Bentz, who made perforations in a metal cup and lined it with some of her son’s blotting paper to create the earliest known filter coffee. This simple innovation made it easier for thousands of people to make delicious coffee without the risk of bitter grounds getting into their cups and the company have gone from strength to strength in the century that’s passed since her coffee-making ingenuity was first put to the test.

Typically, filter paper comes in either white or natural brown. Melitta also offers a paper filter made from bamboo, which is a naturally renewing resource. Not just for Melitta coffee machines, these high quality Aromapor Paper Coffee Filters have been specially designed to optimise the flavour extraction of your favourite coffee from grounds to cup. Melitta Bentz was the maker of the first ever documented coffee filter, and her company is proud to have followed in her footsteps, making the best possible coffee machines and filter papers that fit into virtually all makes of coffee machine as well as filter jugs and pour-over cup filters. When making 1-3 large cups in our Braun Cafe House machine, using the same filter ground Colombian dark roast coffee (from Costco) as always, the result was disgustingly weak!

Melitta® Original coffee filters are made of Aromapor® paper.

These filters are a standard size that fit most filter coffee machines no matter what brand, and they’re ideal for any 8-10 cup filter coffee jug. The shape of the filter that you need to use is dictated by the shape of the filter holder within your coffeemaker. There are two different shapes of holders/filters: Cone (round top gradually tapering down to the bottom) and Basket (circular holder/filter with a flat bottom). When narrowing down which filter coffee machines to consider you can first look at the type of coffee machine jug that will best suit your needs. Glass jugs are the traditional and most common type of jug, these give great visibility of the coffee in the pot but are prone to breaking if dropped or damaged. Stainless steel coffee jugs however will not break and have the added benefit of keeping your coffee warmer, although most filter coffee machines do also include a heating plate to keep coffee warm. At Melitta we also sell coffee filter machines with insulated jugs, these are ideal if you want to keep your coffee warm for a longer period of time. Timer Function Filter coffee machines are the classic way to create great tasting clean and crisp coffee. These machines heat up water to the right temperature then slowly pass this water through the coffee grounds and into the jug to create a delicious brew. Many of our larger filter coffee machines have the function to brew smaller amounts of coffee, 2-5 cups, whilst maintaining the great taste of a full batch. This feature is called AromaControl and only uses half the power to create the same full flavoured perfectly brewed coffee. This function is great for households with varying coffee needs.

Preference of coffee strength varies between our customers and their households, to ensure we meet all of your needs many of our filter coffee machines include adjustable coffee strength. You can easily switch between mild, medium, and strong, when you want a more or less intense coffee experience. Each coffee strength setting creates a clean, crisp, delicious tasting filter coffee moment. Integrated GrinderA timer function can help make those coffee moments just that bit sweeter, there is nothing better than waking up to the smell of fresh coffee brewing. Set your filter coffee machine up so that it comes on when you’re ready, then you don't have to wait for your coffee enjoyment. A timer function is ideal for those busy mornings where you have no time to spare before dashing out the door. Descaling and Cleaning Melitta coffee filters are quite different from other brands, patented with three grades of paper in every filter and extra perforations in the higher levels; this creates three distinct aroma zones with advanced multi-layer filtration to get the best results from whatever grounds you are using: The correct size of filter to use is dictated by the size of the filter holder within your coffeemaker.

More Sanitary -- Paper filters are used only once. Permanent filters are used repeatedly for years and often develop build-up after repeated use. Typically, basket filters fit all six to twelve cup basket style coffeemakers. There are also “Junior” size baskets which are available for four to six cup coffeemakers. Improved extraction results from the concentration of coffee on the bottom of the filter which then creates turbulence as the water hits the grounds thus creating saturation over the entire surface area of the ground coffee. Most higher-end coffeemakers are equipped with cone shaped filter holders. If using a paper filter, we recommend Melitta Cone Coffee Filters which are the only filters that have patented flavor enhancing micro-perforations that provide the perfect extraction for a richer more flavorful coffee. All Melitta cone filters are also double crimped so they are guaranteed never to burst. Potentially Healthier -- Scientific studies have indicated that paper coffee filters play a crucial role in eliminating the cholesterol raising factor of coffee. Permanent filters, on the other hand, allow the cholesterol raising oils to filter into the cup. To brew the most flavorful cup of coffee, it is recommended that paper filters be used. Paper filters effectively trap bitter sediments for a smoother less bitter cup of coffee. Paper filters also allow you to use any type of grind while permanent filters require coarser grinds. Other benefits of paper filters versus permanent filters include easier clean-up, more sanitary, and more environmentally friendly. In addition, studies have indicated that paper filters play a crucial role in eliminating cholesterol-raising factors from coffee.

Brand of the century

Paper filters are the most common and best way to brew coffee utilizing the drip method. Paper filters do the most thorough job in removing particulates and thus effectively trap bitter sediments for a smoother less bitter cup of coffee. In addition, paper filters allow you to use any type of grind while permanent filters require courser grinds. REFINING – slightly thinner and with more perforations, this band allows an even and consistent brew time as the coffee develops its flavour.

Easy Clean-Up -- Once used, paper filters are easily removed from the coffee maker and then disposed. Permanent filters must be thoroughly washed out after each use.

Disclaimer

BALANCING – this topmost band is thinner still and more highly perforated. This helps to encourage a balanced taste and aroma with no bitterness.
