About this deal

Stomach acid is produced in the stomach as a normal part of the digestive process. However, too much stomach acid can cause symptoms such as heartburn and indigestion. It can also irritate an inflamed stomach lining or an ulcer in the stomach or intestine (peptic ulcer). Maalox plus is used to relieve the symptoms of heartburn, indigestion (upset stomach with stomach pain and burning, nausea and excess gas, sometimes called dyspepsia) and excess gas in the stomach and intestines (flatulence or wind). X You are allergic (hypersensitive) to dried aluminium hydroxide gel or magnesium hydroxide or any of the other ingredients in Maalox Suspension (see Section 6: Further Information) Do not take this medicine if any of the above apply to you. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Maalox Suspension. Pregnant women should get advice from their doctor, pharmacist or midwife before using this medication. The manufacturer states that it should be avoided in the first trimester of pregnancy. However, antacids are generally considered safe to take during pregnancy, provided you do not exceed the recommended dose.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following side effects get serious or last longer than a few days. Also tell them if you notice any Maalox Plus Suspension 250ml side effects not listed in the patient information leaflet. The magnesium in this product can cause diarrhea. Using an antacid that contains only aluminum along with this product can help control diarrhea. The aluminum in this product can cause constipation. To minimize constipation, drink plenty of fluids and exercise. Diarrhea is more common with this product than constipation. You should not take Maalox Suspension during the first three months of pregnancy Aluminum-containing antacids bind to phosphate, an important body chemical, in the gut. This can cause low phosphate levels, especially if you use this medication in large doses and for a long time. Tell your doctor right away if you have any of the following symptoms of low phosphate: loss of appetite, unusual tiredness, muscle weakness. Maalox Suspension contains methylparaben (E218) and propylparaben (E216). These may cause an allergic reaction. This allergy may happen some time after taking this medicine. Signs of an allergic reaction include: breathing problems with wheezing and tightness in your chest (called “bronchospasm”) Do not take antacids at the same time as any other medicines. Aluminium-containing antacids may prevent the proper absorption of drugs such as tetracyclines, vitamins, ciprofloxacin, ketoconazole, hydroxychloroquine, chloroquine, chlorpromazine, rifampicin, cefdinir, cefpodoxime, levothyroxine, rosuvastatin, H 2 antagonists, atenolol, cyclines, diflunisal, digoxin, bisphosphonates, ethambutol, fluoroquinolones, sodium fluoride, glucocorticoids, indomethacin, isoniazid, lincosamides, metoprolol, phenothiazine neuroleptics, penicillamine,propranolol and iron salts.
