Our iron sulphate is an iron-rich, long-lasting fertiliser that encourages your grass to grow a healthy dark green to keep your lawn looking its best, all year round. 3-in-1 Formula for Unbeatable Results It is rare for soils other than poor sandy soils to be deficient in these elements. Of them all, iron is perhaps the main one that you will add in the form of iron or ferrous sulphate (also contained in Lawnsmith Winter Green). This is beneficial as a green-up or as a cool weather turf hardener; toughening the plant to resist disease. It is also the best way to get rid of moss which we will discuss in the topic ‘getting rid of moss’. You can also add large amounts of water to your grass to wash away excessive iron sulphate. This will reduce iron levels in the soil and restore your lawn’s health. Some gardeners may put a moss killer down like Iron sulphate before scarifying. It depends on just how mossy or bouncy your lawn is! I tend not to use it and save such treatments only for the worst mossy lawn offenders.
Total Lawn Moss Killer contains 12% iron sulphate, and this is a standard concentration for killing moss in lawns, although I have used 20% concentrations before. The iron in them also has natural chelation, which makes it easier for your grass to absorb. If your lawn doesn’t get enough sunlight, trim tree branches around it for more direct sunlight. Feed your lawn regularly and keep the grass healthy to encourage deep rooting. Also, improve soil drainage and compaction.For the best results, make sure you evenly apply the iron sulphate solution across your whole lawn. To help with this, we recommend dividing large gardens up into smaller square patches to help you precisely measure the amounts needed. How Much Iron Sulphate Should I Mix? In short, when using iron sulphate, we recommend that you wear gloves when mixing and applying, keep children and pets off treated areas for at least 4 days, use care to ensure only grass and lawn areas are sprayed, and always water treated areas well to ensure sulphate does not damage grass. Always follow the instructions for how to apply your particular moss killer. The instructions will say either “dry” application or “wet” application or give you a choice of these methods.
