The textured rubber finish makes the camera nice and grippy while the tripod mount means you can keep it steady when shooting long exposures. Overall, the Lomo’Instant Automat Glass Gives the best results possible from Instax Mini film – the only shame is that the prints are so small.

Polaroid no longer produces instant film. It has become an organization which licenses its brand name to other manufacturers. An example of this is the Polaroid 300 camera, which is a Polaroid branded Fuji Instax. Polaroid PIF-300 film is essentially rebranded Fuji Instax mini film. Neither are as joyous to use, though, nor will they make you as many friends as the Go – which still takes very pleasing pics. Instax Mini film does work out cheaper than Polaroid Go film, but then you'll also need to replace AA batteries on a Mini whereas the Go just needs a USB connection to top up the power. We did find its fixed angle of view slightly tight, but parallax correction at least means what you’re seeing through the viewfinder is essentially what you’ll get printed out. And the 62 x 62mm square prints the SQ40 produces deliver exactly the desaturated, vintage vibes you’d expect from a retro camera.
