About this deal

With colour images on photo papers I’d use the mid ‘High Quality’ setting, since it reproduces fine detail a bit better than the basic mode. I can see no obvious improvements in the highest quality settings for most images. You may have images on a particular paper that show the difference in a way mine don’t… In the P700 the violet/blue ink gives a bit of a boost in this gamut comparison between profiles for a fine art paper on the P600 and P700. The software does quite a few other things as well and is something I’d definitely recommend installing. Conclusions Easy printing from smart devices— print color-managed files directly from your iOS ® device 1 using an easy-to-use interface

If you wanted to know what is the best Epson photo printer, then you have found it in the Expression XP-15000. The price is relatively low for such a high quality device, that gives you excellent photo quality and fantastic color accuracy, almost at a professional level. There is an integrated scanner, which does not have any automatic features, and an app that you allows you to print from your phone via WiFi. You can’t print directly from SD cards, but most photographers would likely be printing photos following an edit, so would be printing from their computers. Here’s a print on ‘Double A4’ paper (210mm x 594mm), with another sheet ready to go in the top feed. It’s from a trip to Cornwall a few years ago.The printer is small enough to easily sit on your desk, and looks good doing so. The paper tray is relatively small however, so is not suited to high volume printing. Photo print quality is good, but nowhere near the pricier printers that are dedicated to photo printing. Essentially, you are getting a printer designed for home users, with easy set up and a small footprint, that delivers professional level prints. You can really only beat this with a much more expensive printer, or by going to a pro lab. Apart from the standard test procedures in evaluating an inkjet printer, it is always interesting to run a few extra tests. In this case, it was a sheet sized at 900x329mm that was cut and flattened from a 17-inch roll of Ilford Omnijet satin paper. Some preliminary test strips indicated that the Epson semi-gloss profile would work well. The prints above are from when I produced an A3+ profiling target (~3k patches) for Epson TPP paper at each of the 5 print quality options. The included scanner is useful, though does not have any automatic sheet feeding functions. But combined with the very good photo print quality, this is the best home all in one printer.

x 5″, 4″ x 6″, 5″ x 7″, 8″ x 10″, A4 (8.3″ x 11.7″), letter (8.5″ x 11″), 11″ x 14″, B (11″ x 17″), A3 (11.7″ x 16.5″), Super B (13″ x 19″) Surprisingly, generic ink is available relatively cheaply for the Pro-100, although this is not likely to give you the wow factor that you will get with official Canon ink. You'll get a better per-ml value by paying the higher up-front cost for a larger 17-by-22-inch model, such as Canon's Pro-1000 or Epson's SureColor P900. Inks for those machines cost 70 cents and 83 cents per ml, respectively. (And, of course, you can print significantly larger photos and artwork.)The printer maintains a job history for the last 12 prints. This can be great for testing, as long as you don’t switch the printer off. When looking at the Canon Pro 300 vs Epson P700, which has comparable high print quality, the main difference you will see will be in your wallet, as the Pro 300 is so much more economical in terms of ink usage, while delivering almost exactly the same level of vibrant, powerful colors.

In the end, it’s all about print quality and the ease and enjoyment of achieving that quality. Here is where this printer scores top marks. Overlook the initial ink situation, and the Epson SureColor P700 surely makes a very strong case for attention.

Epson Print Layout is a free program for both computer and mobile devices that is not only a stand-alone print organizer, but can also be used as an add-on to Photoshop via File>Automate. All settings for print making can be controlled from just one panel. It is an easy progam to work with and is well supported by YouTube tutorials. Some of my panoramic images are huge. The 3.9 metre one below has been printed at over 14 metres long.

In any case, the old CMYK gamut is limited in what colors it can generate compared to the number of colors that the human eye can see and that today's computer monitors can display. Each additional ink color expands the gamut, increasing the printer’s range of possible colors. The addition of violet, for example, increased the color range by 6 percent. That may not sound like much, but remember, we’re talking 10 colors here.

The Epson Media Installer software is an optional software install, which can be used to acquire media settings and profiles. It’s meant to be a route for all paper suppliers to make profiles/media settings available for the P700. At the moment, there is no ‘user’ access to the tools for doing this. It’s discussed in more detail in the P900 review. The custom size can be set from the front panel as well. This will be added to the recent sizes listed when setting paper sizes for new sheets of paper. This may or may not be of help in making sure everything is correct. The software is pretty straightforward to use, as in this example of a single print on a rag art paper. Normally waste ink from head cleaning cycles is dropped into an absorbent pad with printers of A3+ format and smaller. When the pad is saturated it needs to be replaced by a technician or some messy homemade effort applied to soak up the ink. The removable maintenance box is already commonplace in A2 and larger format printers, and when full, it is simply removed and replaced. All neat and tidy, and no mess Charlie!
