About this deal

The Tuo is slightly more complicated. Due to its highly aesthetic design, there are many parts that need to be put together but it will take you about 5 minutes if you follow the instructions correctly. The Elite Tuo is also a work of art, literally, designed by Italian design company Adriano Design. It is one of the most striking and elegant looking trainers on the market. The trainer is made of high-quality materials such as an aluminiumunit, steel frame andbeechwoodlegs. Then there’s a small pile of papers with discount codes for apps and such. Oh, and the manual is in there:

There are some key steps to getting the Elite Toaster to work consistently from a power accuracy standpoint. Aside from pumping up your tire, in my experience the rest of the steps only need to be done once a month or so. As far as calibration goes, you can complete it easily from most apps – including TrainerRoad and Zwift. You’ll see either a calibration prompt in the app (like TrainerRoad), or a small wrench or such in the settings (like Zwift). For example, here it is doing the spin-down within TrainerRoad on an iPad:

FINAL THOUGHTS

Where it is let down is when performing sprint efforts or varying intensity efforts such as 20/40s. At full price, the Tuo is too close to the direct drive trainer market - really you’d be best off saving up just a tiny bit more and getting one of those.

Joe, it is entirely common for shifting to vary a bit between a bike and different wheels. Wheel-off trainers fall into the same category. Forskellen mellem Elite Tuo og almindelige hjultrænere ligger primært i teknologien og designet. Elite Tuo er også kendt for sin kompatibilitet med træningsapps og interaktive funktioner, der gør træningen mere engagerende. In any event, I find that the cross-over between people who really like riding rollers and the people who really like the technology aspect tends to be rather small. Said differently, roller people tend to be more purists who don’t want technology in the way (not all of course, but most).

CADENCE

Well, let’s start in ERG mode, and then work our way out of that. For ERG mode I’m using the small chainring as recommended (and mid-way up the cassette), so that lowers the flywheel speed, and typically makes it easier for trainers to respond. In any case, here’s the full data set from the same workout above. This is compared to a Quarq DZero power meter, PowerTap G3 hub power meter, and a pair of SRM X power meter pedals. Here’s the full data set: The Tuo follows the same app compatibility standards as previous Elite products, and essentially follows the industry norms as you’d expect from a high-end trainer. As you probably know, apps like Zwift, TrainerRoad, SufferFest, Rouvy, Kinomap, and many more all support most of these industry standards, making it easy to use whatever app you’d like. If trainers or apps don’t support these standards, then it makes it far more difficult for you as the end user.
