I’d come to speak to the activist and retired academic because two weeks earlier he had appeared at Kingston Crown Court to clear his name over a conviction that he received more than 50 years ago.

In "The Slave Girl from Jerusalem", a new character, Floridius (played by Mark Benton), was introduced for comic relief. Freelance Trainer, running courses for House of Commons Learning & Development (for MP's Staff) and Government Campus (for civil servants). This book is the result of five years' collective effort by a small group of Arab and Jewish citizens of Israel to penetrate the dense net of illusion and myth that today dominates the thinking and feeling of most Israelis and, at the same time, largely determines the prevailing image of Israel in the Western world. According to the Zionist fairy tale, the state of Israel is an outpost of democracy, social justice and enlightenment, and a homeland and haven for the persecuted Jews of the world. This outpost, so the story goes, though earnestly seeking peace with its neighbors finds itself in a state of perpetual siege because of the greed of Arab rulers, the inherent “unreasonableness” of the Oriental mind and the innate Gentile proclivity toward hatred of the Jews. The theoretical debates that led to the splits in Matzpen had to do with the conceptualization of the relations between class struggle and nationalism in the struggle for socialism. Avangard regarded Israel as a normal capitalist society in which the working class was the primary revolutionary agent. Hence, it saw its goal as the mobilization of that class to create an Israeli socialist republic. It regarded Matzpen's focus on the Israeli-Palestinian national conflict and on the colonial origins of Israeli society as a distraction from the class struggle. Ma'avak, in contrast, saw Matzpen as not emphasizing enough the colonial character of Israeli society. It saw its goal as that of facilitating the Palestinian national liberation struggle as a necessary step towards socialism. In response to both groups, Matzpen re-asserted its combination of support for national and social struggles. Hours after Abu Akleh’s killing, a former Israeli military official suggested on army radio that even if the IDF were to assassinate journalists, this would be justified, since journalists are “ armed with cameras”. This sly reframing of non-violent methods of resistance – be that truthful reporting on Israeli apartheid, or economic boycotts of it – as violent is dangerous for our democracy. Machover has written extensively on the conflict in the Middle East. In 1961, while still members of the Israeli Communist Party, Machover and Akiva Orr, under the pseudonym 'A Israeli', wrote the anti-Zionist analysis of the Arab-Israeli conflict Shalom, Shalom ve'ein Shalom ( Hebrew: שלום, שלום, ואין שלום; "Peace, Peace, and there is no Peace"). The intention of the book was to explain, from publicly available sources, why in 1956 " Ben-Gurion preferred to invade Egypt, alongside France and Britain, rather than to make peace with Egypt". [1] In the course of writing the book, "It became clear to us that the roots of the Israeli–Arab conflict lay, not in the conflict between Israel and the Arab states, but rather in the conflict between Zionist colonialism and the Palestinians over the land of Palestine and its independence". [1] This thesis was an implicit challenge to the line of the Israeli Communist Party, which considered Israel's alliance with the U.S. to be a matter of political choice, not deriving from the colonial nature of the state. When Machover and Orr followed this by criticising the party's adherence to the Soviet line, and called for the publication of the party's history, they were expelled. Machover and Orr, together with others expelled at the same time, then established Matzpen. [2] [3] Together with Jabra Nicola (pen name A. Said), Moshé Machover developed the position, adopted by Matzpen, that the solution to the Israeli Palestinian problem is in a struggle to defeat Zionism and its allies – imperialism and Arab Reaction – and “rally to itself a wider struggle for the political and social liberation of the Middle East as a whole”. The struggle for Palestinian liberation can succeed only when the Palestinian and Israeli masses enter “a joint struggle with the revolutionary forces in the Arab world". [4] Moshé Machover ( Hebrew: משה מחובר; born 1936) is a mathematician, philosopher, and socialist activist, noted for his writings against Zionism. Born to a Jewish family in Tel Aviv, then part of the British Mandate of Palestine, Machover moved to Britain in 1968 where he became a naturalised citizen. He was a founder of Matzpen, the Israeli Socialist Organisation, in 1962. In 1975, Machover was one of the founders of Khamsin, the "journal of revolutionary socialists of the Middle East". [8] Many of his articles from Khamsin are included in the collection Forbidden Agendas. [9] In 2012, Haymarket Press published a collection of Machover's essays from 1966 to 2010, under the title Israelis and Palestinians Conflict and Resolution. [10] October 2017 expulsion and readmission into the Labour Party In addition to film, Jurnee has had several roles on the small screen. She was last seen starring in WGN's critically acclaimed drama "Underground" which followed the escape and risk filled travel along the Underground Railroad. The premiere of the show marked the highest rated original scripted program in the network's history. Other television credits include HBO's cult classic horror drama "True Blood", NBC's hit shows "Friday Night Lights" and "Parenthood,""House,""Strong Medicine,""NYPD Blue," and "Grey's Anatomy". She has also lent her voice to several episodes of the popular Disney Channel series, "Sofia The First." He was born Walter Jake Matthow in New York City, New York on October 1, 1920. His mother was an immigrant from Lithuania and his father was a Russian Jewish peddler and electrician from Kiev, Ukraine. As a young boy, Matthau attended a Jewish non-profit sleep-away camp. He also attended Surprise Lake Camp. His high school was Seward Park High School.

Councillor, Wakefield Council. Interim Policy & External Affairs Officer, Carers Trust (policy and external affairs work including supporting the APPG for Young Carers). During last month’s Labour conference the Holocaust Educational Trust and John Mann MP were among those to react furiously to Mr Machover’s article as it was handed to delegates and members outside the gathering in Brighton. He is shown to be talented at mathematics and engineering, for example when he devises the "float-rope" for Lupus in The Dolphins of Laurentum. In addition, he is proficient with a sling, a bow and arrow, hand-to-hand combat, and in retiarius style combat. Given that JVL has been all but proscribedby Labour, Rosenhead seems unsure about the role the organisation should play in the coming years. “The only sensible thing to work for is a regrouping of the left, which is going to be very difficult – it may be impossible – because there are so many competing ideologies,” he tells me, adding that he fears “it’s going to get worse before it gets better”.
