In the manga, Oozaru, otherwise known as the Great Ape, is a Saiyan trait, as all Saiyans have the ability to transform into them. In the film, Oozaru was an ancient god who helped Piccolo destroy the earth, and is being reborn in Goku (as an adaptation of the notorious full moon transformation from the series) for unknown reasons.
But what people? Who sent him, if Piccolo was trapped? Was he a baby the first time, or did he turn into a baby afterward? Was Goku a baby for thousands of years, or was there a different Oozaru? You know, I just peeked at the Dragon Ball wiki, and this doesn’t seem to be that far off from the manga other than the high school thing.
