About this deal

For Azaleas, you should choose a mulch made up of acidic materials, like leaf mould, pine needles, or conifer wood chips. Your Azaleas need plenty of water after you apply fertilizer; otherwise, they won’t be able to absorb the nutrients. If there isn’t rain, you’ll need to water. No matter where you are, autumn is the best time to plant azaleas, because the plants can settle in during cooler temperatures. In warm locations you can plant azaleas any time of year, but spring and summer planting can be stressful. If you will be planting during a warmer time of year, provide plenty of water.

It’s an easy, inexpensive and organic way to support your garden. Rather than throw out kitchen or yard waste, you can save these materials that are rich in nitrogen and carbon to create an organic supplement that will nourish your soil and improve plant growth. We’ll explain how it works. What can I compost? Tip: Try to plan so that your compost is soil-ready in fall and spring. This will help provide nutrients throughout the year so your plants maintain optimum health. Azalea is a subsection within the Rhododendron genus which provides plenty of really attractive evergreen or deciduous shrubs for your garden. If your Azaleas are established and doing well, all you need to do is apply mulch or compost to the soil’s surface every year. This will break down into the soil over the year, add nutrients to the soil and increase microbial activity, making nutrients more available to your plants’ roots. How and when precisely you will feed Azaleas depends on whether you are growing your Azaleas in the ground or in containers. Typically, you will plant a single Azalea in one pot since most of these shrubs will take up the space on their own.

The combination of house and yard waste, water, and air create bacteria and fungi that are good for the soil. The carbon from the brown yard waste and the nitrogen from the food waste mixed with water and oxygen feeds live bacteria and fungi. This bacteria and fungi produce nutrients that feed the soil and plants. Insert the lower third of each stem into a small container filled with a moist rooting medium, such as a combination of one-third compost, one-third peat moss or vermiculite, and one-third sand. Fortunately, feeding Azaleas, whichever type you are growing and wherever you are growing them, is relatively straightforward. Organic fertilizers, fertilizers that contain living organisms, and fertilizers that include pesticides all have a limited shelf life. Mineral fertilizers don’t go bad unless they are in liquid form. When feeding your Azaleas, I don’t recommend you use all-purpose fertilizers. Instead, choose a fertilizer that is designed for acid-loving plants or specifically for Azaleas. Alternatively, if you are correcting a specific nutritional deficiency, choose a fertilizer that adds only that particular nutrient to the soil.
