This class is known as a class that is cursed (however, they don't like to use this word 'cursed.' They prefer phenomenon.'). It is known as an "on-year" when Sou joins that class. But an "on-year" for what? As for the characters in this book, they're all loveable. Each one has their own personality that doesn't overlap with another. They all have something quite unique about them as well. Character relationships—you can feel strong connections between characters. For instance, Hiratsuka Sou and Kouda Shunsuke, and Mei Misaki and Koichi Sakakibara. Even the old library teacher Mr. Chibiki—you can tell how much he truly cares for Sou.A declaration from the court regarding the landlord being in breach (as a precursor to the tenant carrying out the repairs themselves); Nobuyuki Yagisawa is Sou's close friend. They had been in the same class for two years in Yomiyama North Middle School (called North Yomi for short), and are classmates in Class 3 together for their third year. Yagisawa is a cheerful and optimistic individual who tries to hide his fear about the rumors surrounding Class 3, even though the last two years were "off-years" in which no unusual events relating to the calamity phenomenon took place in the class. Another 2001 centers around one fourteen-year-old boy going by the name Sou. Hiratsuka Sou. Considering a lot of personal family issues, he hates being called 'Hiratsuka' so a majority of the characters refer to him by his given name (aside from teachers, adults, unfamiliar students, or strangers). You'll learn that Sou has a lot to him to his personality to personal issues to trauma and PTSD from past events in his life. He's a very complicated character, but he's very mature, reserved, and introverted. He cares for others, but he doesn't tend to let that show so bluntly, or he does it and doesn't think much of it; being kind is sometimes a reflex to him that he doesn't realize is stepping out of the way to help somebody. In addition to that, it might be because of his struggle to show emotions. If he doesn't care, he simply doesn't! Sou is very simple, but at the same time, not. Kouichi also has a rather cold side to his personality; when Izumi ends up fatally wounded by the Curse and asks him if he remembers the first time they met, he tells her honestly that he doesn't instead of lying to let her die happy, though the fact that she had just tried to kill Mei likely influenced this to some degree. The sheer bluntness of this statement is noted by Izumi as she dies, who tells Kouichi that he should have at least pretended to remember her.

Yukari first met Kouichi at the hospital in Episode 1, she gave him a bundle of flowers that the whole class put together. She was among the students who directly welcomed Kouichi to Class 3. She also sat with Kouichi during PE class when he was recovering and she had a sprained ankle. Kouichi probably saw her as a good friend, oblivious to the points Yukari flirts with him. The two also share a bonding scene where they walk home together and them discussing the classes trips. She also was a main person that started giving Kouichi clues the past on Class 3. He is very guilty over her death, showing he cared for her as well as everyone else.
