About this deal

For aftermarket RTX 3080s, there are plenty to choose from, including a few from ASUS too. The other ASUS cards aren't as capable and do cost a little less, but compared to other aftermarket vendors, it really comes down to price, availability, design, and cooling. Most of them will perform as well as this GPU.

In terms of size, it is not as large as the other AIB cards, but it still can’t be called small. It will still have the now-familiar overhang in the ATX cases.Below are the higher resolution results starting with 2560×1440 and the gaining in popularity 3840×2160 (4K UHD). These resolutions prove to be a bit of a stretch for some cards, but an Ampere-based RTX 3080 had no issues running either setting. Before we get started, it’s important to point out that NVIDIA’s fan-on-each-side design will be exclusive to its Founders Edition cards. This means the cards you read about today had to use an alternative design. In most cases, this has been the 3-fan design, a tried and tested method for GPU cooling.

The fan noise and heating department did show improvements, but that was about all. However, if you have proper case ventilation, you shouldn’t be too concerned about this. Our Thoughts Source: Harish Jonnalagadda / Windows Central (Image credit: Source: Harish Jonnalagadda / Windows Central) The RTX 30 series from NVIDIA delivers serious performance gains over the RTX 20 series, making the RTX 3080 a worthy recommendation for anyone with a 10- or 20-series GPU. The RTX 3080 offers up to 70% gains compared to the older RTX 2080 at the same price, and that's just for the NVIDIA reference cards. The new setup uses a massive 2.9 slot heatsink to disperse the 320W+ loads with a whopping seven heat pipes that meander through the huge fin array moving the heat from the surface of the polished heat spreader distributing the load throughout. Air is moved through the heatsink via three axial fans – where Asus has increased the blade count to a total of 13 on the center and 11 on the auxiliary fans. The axial style fans also use a smaller barrier ring than previous generations which is said to allow for more lateral intake and provide increased airflow through the array. The center fan’s additional blades, full-height barrier ring, and blade count increase static pressure pushing air directly onto the GPU heat spreader.

The first thing you’ll notice about the RTX 3080 ROG Strix OC is its size. It’s absolutely massive, and you could easily mistake it for an RTX 3090. The usual 3-fan design and the physical BIOS switch on the card itself are present, with ‘Performance’ and ‘Quiet’ modes available. It’s worth saying that there isn’t much difference between these two modes in terms of performance, but the different sound levels will be much more noticeable. Zooming in on the I/O area, we’re presented with three DisplayPort (v1.4) ports and two HDMI (2.0b) ports. The maximum digital resolution is a whopping 7680×4320 (8K). The I/O plate has large vents to let some of the heated air escape directly out of the chassis. Power is fed to the card through three 8-pin PCIe connectors. In our synthetic tests, the Asus ROG Strix RTX 3080 OC performs well falling in line nicely between the MSI RTX 3090 GXT and a Founder’s Edition RTX 2080 Ti. In Time Spy and Unigine Superpostion, we saw ~20% performance increase from the 2080 Ti to our 3080 while Fire Strike (Extreme) was a bit higher, around 22%. The Port Royal test showed the largest increase approaching 25%. Gaming Benchmarks

Gigabyte has produced yet another stellar NVIDIA card. Based on its looks alone, the Eagle is among the most unorthodox-looking RTX 3080 cards, but that doesn’t prevent it from being an excellent option. Asus uses an application called GPU Tweak II to control their graphics cards. Like other similar applications, you’re able to control a slew of functionality from the interface. This includes core and memory speeds, power limit and voltage, fan control, and more. The interface is simple and easy to use if looking a bit dated compared to other applications (MSI Afterburner and EVGA Precision X1). It is simple and easy to use – just how we like it. Axial-tech fan design has been tuned up with more fan blades and a reversed rotational direction for the center fan.

This is the GPU to get for 4K gaming.

Remember when we said that Trinity is similar to the Founders Edition? That’s true, for the most part, but where it counts the most, in performance, Trinity outperforms NVIDIA’s card, if only by a slight margin. Of course, it’s still a notch below some of the more expensive RTX 3080 cards, but it’s still a good card. To bolster the specialized roles of the center and auxiliary fans, the rotational direction of the center fan is reversed. This reduces air turbulence inside the cooling array for another boost to overall thermal performance. The fans also shut off completely when card power consumption is low and the GPU temperature falls beneath 50 Celsius, keeping noise levels down when the system is under a light load. This is not the only way it differs from the other RTX 3080 cards. It only has two 8-pin power connectors, while the Founders Edition comes with NVIDIA’s new 12-pin standard. This limited edition of the ROG Strix GeForce RTX™ 3080 features a completely white colorway on top of all the generational improvements to the ROG Strix series. Now’s your chance to build a high-end white-themed gaming rig with the latest in graphics technology.
