About this deal

Up until writing this review, I didn't actually realise how much I enjoyed the book – thinking about it now, I realise I loved it, and I especially loved perhaps the smaller character of Jane. So simple, and yet such a brilliant girl to be involved in a book; she wasn't one who wore a ton of makeup or short skirts. She was great. YA Fiction needs more girls like that. the largest person who is really, really gay, and also the gayest person who is really, really large. He recalls a seminar he once gave to an arts leadership group. “I told them: ‘Just remember, you’re in the leisure business. Most people go to art galleries on their day off. They don’t want homework.’ And that’s something I’m very keen on: I am trying to democratise art, but I’m not saying it means a drop in quality. It just means upping the accessibility and entertainment. Entertainment and humour are often denigrated, but they take just as much skill as the so-called intellectual level of high culture.” She is independent, smart, and sarcastic. Emory struggles to let people in and see her true self, but once they break down her walls she is fiercely loyal and isn’t afraid to fight for what she wants. Emory is known to be grumpy and unapproachable, and as a result of this she only has a few friends. anyway, i really need this job, which means i can't do things like yell or pin my stupid name tag upside down or wear jeans that have rips in them or sacrifice puppies in the toy aisle." Which were the Perrys’ personal favourites? “Oh, I liked the portrait theme because I was centre stage and I like the attention,” says Philippa. A touching thread ran through it, of Grayson gearing up to paint her portrait on a large yellow plate. He was nervous because he’s not a portraitist, but also because it made him face up to his relationship with a woman to whom he has been married for 30 years. “In a way I have an idealised relationship with you and it’s very hard to confront the reality… I haven’t put your eye bags in yet. Heh-heh-heh.” The media doesn’t offer many templates of happy, long-term relationships, he points out. “It doesn’t show you that happiness is not swimming with dolphins, or climbing Machu Picchu; it’s having a drink with your partner, a nice summer’s evening, walking the dog – that’s happiness.” Grayson is a unisex name. However, it is primarily used to name baby boys instead of girls. Variations of Grayson Possibly Gay Jane", a member of her school's Gay-Straight Alliance, is Ambiguously Gay for the first portion of the novel, until she's forced to admit that she doesn't understand the gay experience because she thinks she's "probably straight". The seemingly clear possibility that she might be bi is never brought up at all. The first Will's story begins as Tiny tries to convince him to join the school's Gay Straight Alliance (GSA). As always, Tiny's mission has more than one purpose: he wants to set Will up with Jane, a snarky and smart girl and club member, but also drum up more support for a production of a musical— Tiny Dancer, later retitled Hold Me Closer—based on his life. Tiny succeeds on one front. The student council agrees to fund Tiny's production, but Will just ends up hurting Jane's feelings. He is unable to decide whether he likes her or not until it is too late—it turns out she still likes her old boyfriend, a sexy, older water polo player. For the other Will, life is a bit darker. He and Isaac finally decide to meet—at a place called Frenchy's in Chicago—but when he arrives, he finds out the place is a sleazy porn shop. Isaac is not there, but the other Will Grayson is, rooting around for a gag gift for Tiny and Jane because he could not get into a concert with his fake ID card.First off, I'm not quite sure why it's called Will Grayson, Will Grayson because, clearly again, this book is not about either Wills. It's about Tiny Cooper, a humongous, self-centered, selfish, loud and super clichéd gay guy. This guy is so self-centered that the plot of the book is basically about him staging a musical about himself. WTF? I thought it would be more about the two Graysons, interacting with each other but they are actually connected only through Tiny. Naperville Will’s mother. Mom is a single parent who struggles with connecting with her son. Her patience and understanding eventually create a safe space for Naperville Will to be vulnerable and honest. Gideon Maura: A goth girl who is attracted to Will Grayson 2. She is one of the few people at his school with whom he interacts. She is described by Will Grayson 2 as "unrealistically friendly", because she pays "too much attention" to him when he describes himself as uninteresting. Maura poses as the online love interest of Will Grayson 2, Isaac, to gain Will's attention, admiration, and further, affection. [21] [10]

As the story progresses, the stories of Will Grayson 1 and Will Grayson 2 become entangled, carrying strong themes of young love, teen angst and rebellion, and self-discovery throughout the book until the ending scene.

And then we get to the ending. I almost didn't get to the ending after Tatiana here on GR warned that it was very "Glee"...So yeah. The musical. Wow. She was right. Very Glee or High School Musical. Over the top and unrealistic. I actually really like Glee, but it's fun on TV, not books. I'm sure there are some who may really like this book, but for me it was just okay. John Green and David Levithan write alternating chapters about two teenage boys with the same name in the 2010 novel Will Grayson, Will Grayson. The first Will Grayson is kind but aloof. He mostly plays second fiddle to his longtime best friend Tiny Cooper, a massive and flamboyantly gay football player. Tiny turns pirouettes in the hallways and openly weeps in class at the end of each of his short-lived relationships. Tiny may be self-centered, but he is big-hearted—his friend Will is not nearly so comfortable in his own skin, preferring to follow strict rules of nonengagement when it comes to relationships (romantic and otherwise) to avoid the pain of inevitable parting. Meanwhile, in another suburb of Chicago, another teenager named Will Grayson (or will grayson, as his story is written entirely in lowercase) suffers from depression. He struggles with his own self-loathing, mustering up just enough energy to make it to school every day so he can come home and chat online with Isaac, a boy he met in a chat room. His only other friend—to use the term loosely—is a morbid and angsty poet named Maura. Maura has a crush on Will, but rather than tell her he likes boys, Will is content to let their friendship sail along on a wave of sarcasm.Courtesy of Penguin Young Readers I really liked the idea of this book, having two authors create a character each and alternate their points of view throughout the novel. For me it was an entirely different kind of experience and the two authors have such unique styles that I would say it is definitely something everyone should read. It's a story about two teenage boys, both of which are called Will Grayson. They could hardly be more different, there lives have almost nothing in common... until one night when circumstances lead to them meeting by accident (in a porn shop). It's funny and it's ridiculous. This is one of those that I can't possibly imagine NOT listening to as an audiobook. I would even go so far as to say that I really ONLY recommend listening to the audiobook. The quality and narration was ridiculously good. It took a bit to really get into the story, but once I did, I realized that the humor of the book was captured perfectly by the two readers who portrayed each of the Will Graysons. I laughed out loud so often that I didn't even care if I looked like a maniac who loves laughing to herself and driving like a grandma down the highway.

The novel follows two boys who both have the name Will Grayson. The first Will, who writes in sentence case, is described as trying to live his life without being noticed. This is complicated by the fact that his best friend, Tiny Cooper, described as "the world's largest person who is really, really gay" and "the world's gayest person who is really, really large", is not the type to go around unnoticed. Tiny is also throughout the novel trying to create an autobiographical musical, which further draws attention to himself and everyone around him. The Old English meaning is hierarchical meaning where the gray-haired gentleman was an estate steward. Monarchs appointed estate stewards to watch over properties throughout the kingdom.
