About this deal

In September 2015, Weaver wrote and presented an eight-part podcast series called Missing, looking into how and why people disappear. [14] It was selected by iTunes as one of the best podcasts of 2015. [15] In August 2016, Weaver recorded three further episodes. Even the cover of this book is moody and atmospheric. In fact, it really sets the tone for this dark thriller. Missing persons investigator David Raker’s race to find a man who disappeared during his morning commute—book three of Tim Weaver’s international bestselling mystery series At the same time, veteran NYPD detective Frank Travis, during his last days before retirement, is trying to discover what happened to artist Louise Mason, who disappeared three months previously. Unbeknownst to both, Detective Travis and Rebekah each hold a missing piece of the same puzzle.

Having read and been engaged in the lives of the subjects, as well as fully entertained by David Raker himself in the previous books I found this one veered perhaps down a too convoluted path for me although I am mindful that due to events in my personal life I wasn’t perhaps in the right frame of mind for any book at this time. So my observations are that there was more violence in this episode than the previous books in the series and the expose into film making was fascinating but perhaps a little bit too ‘nerdy’ for those of us who aren’t as thrilled by the subject as Tim Weaver as a result the endless playing of sections of a film, a director obsessed by his star and lost copies of films made years previously which included fairly lengthy explanations of how originals need to be stored to keep them from deteriorating slowed the pace down for me. If you have a love of old Hollywood movies, especially those naff horror ones, then you will love this aspect. What is not in doubt that there is a complicated mystery to be solved and my sleuthing didn’t even come close. The violence was chilling but the tension was supreme all the way through to the final dénouement. I felt almost scared in places. The writing was tight yet flowing. The clues were there some were obvious, others not so which is where you get such a buzz from a thriller. When you can’t second-guess you know you have a good writer. Physically, I feel fine." The first of the lies: I wasn't grounded by the injury, but I could feel it most days. A dull ache. A sharp pain. If I told her exactly how I was feeling, it returned us to the point at which we'd parted: my job, its risks, the people I tried to find, and how she failed to understand the reasons why. From her side there was no failure to understand anything. After all, what was there to understand about a job that ended up with me on an operating table? To her, to most people, it was insane: a job full of uncalculated risk. To me, it was everything that mattered. Book 7 in the David Raker thrillers and for me personally this was a giant step up from book 6, What Remains, which I wasn't enamored with. This time we’re dealt a different bag as we’re not only watching the story unfold from David’s perspective but we’re also viewing things through the eyes of Colm, giving us an insight into what is going on with him following on from the last story rather than it being simple word of mouth from David. At first I was slightly unsure if I would enjoy the change but I certainly enjoyed it, coming to really enjoy the reappearance of Colm in this second book. But the smile was just a lie, a piece of tracing paper I could see right through; and as he stood there, he tilted his head and looked at me, eyes darting from one point of my body to the next, like a butcher sizing up a carcass. Two and a half years later, it remains a mystery. Desperate for answers, the families of the missing turn to investigator David Raker.

Specsavers National Book Award – Crime & Thriller of the Year". nationalbookawards.co.uk/. 18 November 2013 . Retrieved 18 November 2013.Stranded, no hope of escape, wondering what has brought her to this moment, Rebekah struggles for survival on a remote island. Tim Weaver brings the sense of isolation, the terror, the bleak landscape to vivid, stark life with his brilliant writing and the entire read is edge of the seat fantastic. I had my doubts about the ending but on the whole I found this to be a tension filled, gripping read and will now be looking out for the previous books in the series. Surprisingly the book focuses heavily on the case. I say this because there's usually a lot of time dedicated to The complex character throughout the series, David Raker, is charged with the responsibility of investigating the case. Just like Tim, David Raker is a former journalist. We learn that he left his job to nurse his ailing wife, who finally dies. David is reluctant to take the task of investigating Alex Towne’s disappearance, but remembering the loss of his own, he finally agrees, and this signifies the beginning of trouble for him. Missing persons investigator David Raker specializes in finding the lost. Whether dead or alive, he brings the truth home to the families left behind. But there's one person he's never been able to save.
