About this deal

Screenwriter: Ian Shorr; screen story by Todd Stein, based on the book The Reincarnationist Papers, by D. Eric Maikranz Reincarnation and remembering past lives is at the core. There is a secret society and a young man who through this group discovers that he is one of the few that can remember his past lives. The plot line is well done and we witness his and others' experiences over many millenia.

Elena, Nicolaou (December 16, 2020). "37 Books to Read Before They're 2021's Most Popular Movies and TV Shows". Oprah Magazine . Retrieved April 22, 2021. The Reincarnationist Papers by D. Eric Maikranz sounded like it was going to be right up my alley. It sounded like it had so much potential, especially being recommended for fans of The Matrix and Memento which are a couple of my favorite movies. I mean, reincarnation, different lives, secret societies, almost superpowers - that all sounds pretty cool. Plus, it's going to be adapted into a movie called Infinite, which looks to have a decent cast (including Dylan O'Brien who as far as I'm concerned is one to watch). Unfortunately, this novel just didn't work for me not matter how much I wanted it too. Much of that is due to little character development. I wasn't interested in any of the cast of characters. They were all much too thinly drawn with too many dull segues that don't matter in the long run that are too bogged down by everything from info dumps and minor details. The writing style itself wasn't for me either. It's a little too awkward and stilted in the wrong places, and it could do with another round or two of edits to make to improvements to the flow of the writing. Samul, Ron (April 23, 2021). "The Reincarnationist Papers Review". Library Journal . Retrieved April 28, 2021.For fans of The Matrix and Memento, a twisty, exciting adventure!” (Diana Gabaldon, number-one New York Times best-selling author of the Outlander series) One Sentence Summary: Evan hasn't really fit in since he turned 18 and received memories from two previous lives, but that changes when he meets Poppy, a woman like him. The high-speed, Fast & Furious-style opening takes place in the Mexican capital in “The Last Life.” A man driving a red Ferrari, later identified as Heinrich Treadway (Dylan O’Brien), zips through the streets with cop cars and other vehicles in pursuit, including one carrying his comrades, Leona (Joana Ribeiro) and Abel (Tom Hughes), who remind him of the importance of keeping “the egg” out of their adversaries’ hands. They have just enough time to reaffirm their love before an assassin blows them to smithereens and Treadway takes a death-defying leap out of his car as it flies off an under-construction bridge.

Haunted by memories of two past lives, a troubled young man stumbles upon a centuries-old secret society of similar individuals and dares to join their ranks.” Oprah Magazine listed The Reincarnationist Papers as a Book to Read Before They're 2021's Most Popular Movies and TV Shows. It was really interesting to read as the author/translator got through more of the notebooks, had some discussions about what reincarnation would mean. Sure enough, Bathurst ( Chiwetel Ejiofor, in glowering form) turns up at the prison where Evan is being held and starts playing Russian Roulette while quizzing him about his past lives until Nora busts him out with an armored sports car. Another big chase follows with a hailstorm of bullets before she whisks him off in a private jet to an isolated mountain retreat somewhere in Asia, promising to sort out his jumbled memories. For fans of The Matrix and Memento, a twisty, exciting adventure!”—Diana Gabaldon, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Outlander series Kit, Borys (November 1, 2018). These “special people” arrogantly walk around doing whatever they want. The concept of karma is totally ignored. It’s an absolute law that what you do in your current life sets up the reality of the next ones, and this isn’t mentioned really at all aside from the skills they developed. Whether someone remembers the destructive (or constructive) things they did in past lives it doesn’t matter. They still reap the results in this one. I was sent this book to review for the author. Dr Eric Maikranz and even have a podcast episode coming out this Sunday with the author of this book and his journey (humble brag) my podcast is called the banana show and it's available on youtube and other platforms such as google podcast , Apple podcast , Spotify and the rest but enough with the self promotion. Fans of movies about immortal warriors like The Old Guard, Highlander, and Marvel's Eternals may find Infinite a bit confusing since it isn't the same physical character who continues throughout time, just their souls in new bodies, necessitating different actors to play them once they reincarnate. Infinite can also be a headscratcher because of the way the movie presents the main characters' lives and when the events of the film take place.

There are a couple of books that this reminds me of. Steven Brust has a couple of books called "The Incrementalists" which involve personal survival by a small group of people able to implant their psyches into the minds of other people (who are than suppressed.) Michael Marshall Smith The intruders is also a story of a secret society where people can arrange to have themselves reborn. Also, for people to use that many drugs it would completely mess up their connection with that invisible part of them that remembers. I spent 10 years in a meditation group working hard to reach that invisible part before the memories began to come. Not my first intention but it happened as a consequence of the regular work I did, avoiding drugs and anything else that messed me up. JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Update and Roadmap" (PDF). The dynamic between the protagonist and the other characters didn't quite work for me. There tension/ease, mistrust/trust felt off. There were also some dream sequences that didn't really seem necessary to advance the overall plot. I'm sure they were intended to show his feelings about one past life in particular, but I kept waiting for some big reveal only to realize it was just his complicated emotions about his past lives. There was enough of that in his waking life that the dreams just muddied the waters of the plot.
