In other contexts the term does not necessarily have pejorative overtones and may even be complimentary when used, in areas where innovation is welcome, of ideas that are in fundamental disagreement with the status quo in any practice and branch of knowledge. Main articles: Medieval history of Christianity §High Middle Ages (800–1300), Medieval history of Christianity §Late Middle Ages (1300–1499), and Heresy in the Catholic Church Sanguinius is the most loyal son of pure heart and mind vs. Sanguinius is a traitor who considered cooperating with xenos and nearly sold his soul to Chaos. Not to mention the division of "if he told his father about the flaw, it could've been solved" vs. "if he told his father about the flaw, the Blood Angels would be purged". Horus is a brilliant man who was tragically corrupted into serving Chaos vs. Horus couldn't stub his toe without coming to cry to daddy about it and it's no surprise that when the Emperor left, he threw a hissy fit.

The old opinion of John of Damascus continues to persist among Christian orientalists. The author here replies to Frank Hugh Foster (see 233), who said that Islam is in fact heretical Christianity. The study of heresy requires an understanding of the development of orthodoxy and the role of creeds in the definition of orthodox beliefs, since heresy is always defined in relation to orthodoxy. Orthodoxy has been in the process of self-definition for centuries, defining itself in terms of its faith by clarifying beliefs in opposition to people or doctrines that are perceived as incorrect.

Frater Thamatica, due to his fan-bestowed status as one of the funniest non-Ork characters in the lore. What makes it even more humorous is the fact that happens to be part of the Iron Hands, a legion which is stereotyped as being a bunch of stoic, emotionless cyborgs. In Britain, the 16th-century English Reformation resulted in a number of executions on charges of heresy. During the thirty-eight years of Henry VIII's reign, about sixty heretics, mainly Protestants, were executed and a rather greater number of Catholics lost their lives on grounds of political offences such as treason, notably Sir Thomas More and Cardinal John Fisher, for refusing to accept the king's supremacy over the Church in England. [45] [46] [47] Under Edward VI, the heresy laws were repealed in 1547 only to be reintroduced in 1554 by Mary I; even so two radicals were executed in Edward's reign (one for denying the reality of the incarnation, the other for denying Christ's divinity). [48] Under Mary, around two hundred and ninety people were burned at the stake between 1555 and 1558 after the restoration of papal jurisdiction. [48] When Elizabeth I came to the throne, the concept of heresy was retained in theory but severely restricted by the 1559 Act of Supremacy and the one hundred and eighty or so Catholics who were executed in the forty-five years of her reign were put to death because they were considered members of "a subversive fifth column." [49] The last execution of a "heretic" in England occurred under James VI and I in 1612. [50] Although the charge was technically one of "blasphemy" there was one later execution in Scotland (still at that date an entirely independent kingdom) when in 1697 Thomas Aikenhead was accused, among other things, of denying the doctrine of the Trinity. [51]Emperor Justinian issued severe laws against heretics in AD 527 and 528. (It should be noted, this was in the aftermath of a severe series of riots that left thousands dead.) The Emperor. A moron or extreme Jerkass (or a bit of both) who basically directly influenced the Traitor Legions to turn against him for understandable reasons? Or a man with too little time, who had to either choose to coddle his adult long lost children or hope they were mature enough to deal with real life without daddy holding their hand? Sandle, Mark. 2007. "Soviet and Eastern bloc Marxism." pp. 59–77 in Twentieth-Century Marxism, edited by D. Glaser and D. M. Walker. London: Routledge. ISBN 978-1-13597974-4. p. 62. Present-day nontrinitarians, such as Unitarians, Latter-day Saints and other Mormons, and Jehovah's Witnesses, reject all seven Councils.

Many groups held dualistic beliefs, maintaining that reality was composed into two radically opposing parts: matter, usually seen as evil, and spirit, seen as good. Docetism held that Jesus' humanity was merely an illusion, thus denying the incarnation. Others held that both the material and spiritual worlds were created by God and were therefore both good, and that this was represented in the unified divine and human natures of Christ. [19] From the late 11th century onward, heresy once again came to be a concern for Catholic authorities, as reports became increasingly common. The reasons for this are still not fully understood, but the causes for this new period of heresy include popular response to the 11th-century clerical reform movement, greater lay familiarity with the Bible, exclusion of lay people from sacramental activity, and more rigorous definition and supervision of Catholic dogma. The question of how heresy should be suppressed was not resolved, and there was initially substantial clerical resistance to the use of physical force by secular authorities to correct spiritual deviance. As heresy was viewed with increasing concern by the papacy, however, the secular arm was used more frequently and freely during the 12th century and afterward. Ancient Rylanor thanks to his short story and the popular fan-song retelling of it . He's best known for flipping off Fulgrim so hard that it permanently damaged his pride and managing to redeem Chaos Marines with his unbreakable faith in the Emperor. Rogal Dorn is either a stalwart Reasonable Authority Figure or too hard-headed and inflexible to be fit for command. Lotara Sarrin, for winning the respect of Angron and a good portion of the World Eaters Legion by being an utterly fearless tough-as-nails Blood Knight... After taking command of their flagship the Conqueror at the tender age of 30. Onboard, she enforced discipline with an iron fist, once shooting a World Eaters Captain in the face (and surviving) after he pulled some costly Leeroy Jenkins antics, leading to no shortage of fanart portraying the World Eaters as being powerpants-shittingly scared of her.

Heresy in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam has at times been met with censure ranging from excommunication to the death penalty. [3] Really, the whole thing is the Moral Event Horizon of the Chaos gods. All the tragedy the galaxy suffers is ultimately due to them manipulating things for their benefit. Even with all the push the Emperor gave to the Traitor Legions, the Chaos Gods still spent years malevolently plotting to bring down the Imperium and drag mankind into darkness, especially with the corruption of the Sons of Horus, the Word Bearers, and the Emperor's Children. The destruction of Prospero in particular is tragic, which should come as no surprise as it was caused by Tzeentch, long considered to be the most malevolent of the Chaos Gods. The followers of Chaos itself may have become more sympathetic with the Horus Heresy, but the Chaos Gods themselves have lost all claim of sympathy.
